Default feg sa 85 m ?

I picked this up a few months ago and have been struggling to say it is legit. It has a sloppy paint finish, notably the safety and gas tube are different gloss than from the receiver and barrel has an painted uneven finish (right side has some thin areas). Were these painted or blued? Gas tube fit on gas block seems a bit off. The bolt and carrier though not in this message look new. Stock seems unfinished but i am no expert. Brake is USA stamped. It is KBI import stamped receiver. Thanks for any input.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't know what I got so I'm reaching out to the more smart. All the numbers match as far as I can see like bolt and carrier.
I wish the stock looked as good as my floor.

I believe the stock set is an Ironwood set made of beechwood. I think it might have an oil finish on it. You can remove the lower hand guard to see the inside to compare the finish.

For a very limited amount of time Global Trades sold NEW Hungarian FEG sourced AKM steamed elm furniture that has that palm swell forend.

So you are looking at a debanned KBI that has authentic FEG furniture on it.

Its just not the same furniture as the older preban rifles.

lol, yeah I remember because I still have a set of that same furniture in a box.

The OP says that rifle is a KBI but there are rifles just like that that ARE NOT KBI as they are Global Trades rifles. Global Trades also imported and sold FEG SA85m receivers.

It looked like new until i put 20 rounds slowly (no mag dump) through it then the weak paint spots bubble up or whatever the term is like a sagia. I have read about. No big deal. Bolt and stuff look like new It is spot on sight wise and seems to accept magpul, Chinese, Russian and other unknow mags i have.

You may be correct. If they purchased it as a set, but they could have custom order the hand guards.
I’ll have to double check when I get home, didn’t Matt stamp IWD on the inside of the stock behind the butt plate?

It's a KBI marked rifle, so it's a post ban that was imported with a thumb hole
stock, neutered gas block, and neutered front sight.

Only parts numbered are bolt, carrier, and front trunnion.

If the furniture is Ironwood, the butt stock should have a large I and D on either
side under the butt plate.

The fit and finish on them was impeccable, but my KBI was a little loose between the gas block and gas tube.
I rectified the fit when it was de banned using the vented gas tube that FEG used on their Military rifles.

I have a Global Trades SSR-85B that is put together from an unissued Polish AKM underfolder kit and a Hungarian SA85M receiver. Bought it at the Dallas Market Hall gunshow in November 2001 where Global Trades had a booth. It has the light Hungarian looking furniture but it’s not what was on the prebans. It’s an extremely well made rifle and one of my favorites.

Looks like a debanned KBI SA-85M. Someone put a Romy gas block on it looks like or maybe Polish. Can’t tell about front sight. They probably spray painted the front end to match the back end which is probably why you’re seeing the paint issues. The original paint on Hungarian rifles is good stuff. It wouldn’t bubble like that with such minimal firing. Either way you have yourself a very nice rifle. If the paint bothers you, disassemble the entire rifle and remove all of the paint that you don't like with brake cleaner or acetone. Hit it with light coats of rustoleum black appliance epoxy. Make sure the can is warm and bake the barreled receiver at 200 degrees for an hour or so in an oven or on your grill. It'll knock that sheen down a bit to match the receiver. Make sure you paint it with the slant brake on so you don't get the epoxy on the threads.

Gas block should be flat on the bottom, like older Romy gas blocks. His has the two humps and then the relief notched between the pins. Can't tell about the gas block as there are very slight differences in those compared to Romy and Polish ones. I think his FSB is Hungarian from what I can see.

Search for AK-63F and you'll see what I am talking about.

Nice piece, de-banned thumbhole gun.
Any chance the forend furniture is original?
I recall the SA-85 came with both standard AKM gas systems, and AMD-65 short style.

I got no info on this other than what is posted here. The butt stock has the push in storage for a cleaning kit that was not included.

How bad you want one?
Even got an NOS Hungarian Stock Set.
Had less than 2 magazines fired through it.
De-banned KBI with Hungarian parts.
