Default Barnaul 308 Hollow Point Boat Tail

Iíve never seen this stuff before. Itís fairly cheap for the current market. Itís a 150gr hollow point boat tail bullet. That seems like it would be a good idea.

Anyone have any experience with it? For sale a few places but Classic is what I found first

Ok for certain rifles but never shoot steel case .308 in a FAL rifle.

Now my son has shot steel case .308 in a Smith & Wesson AR10 without issues but personally... it's a ( Kaboom ) waiting to happen in a semi-auto rifle.

Academy used to sell their Monarch branded steel case by Barnaul that the Yugo M77 digested with no issues..not sure in other semi-auto or bolt guns.

I've shot lots of steel case in my fal m14 and every other 308 i have. Never had a problem until I got a batch that went kaboom in all of them. I think it's the batch rather than the ammo in general. If you have a problem with wolf send it back for a refund or a replacement no questions asked. They pay shipping both ways

But the question is would they replace a 1400 dollar rifle that went ( Kaboom ) over a batch of crappy ammo because Ivan was drunk on the job.

I'll pass on steel case in my FAL rifles.

What in particular makes steel cased .308 a kaboom waiting to happen?

I've fired steel cased ammo in every single gun I own ( 9mm, .45, .40sw, .223, x39, .308, and never had any issues.

The mechanics of a kaboom is either an out of battery ignition, a wrong powder charge or firing into an obstructed bore due to a previous squib loaded round.

What does a steel case have to do with any of those?

What if the ctg case head splits/fails at 58,000 psi at the rear where it unsupported by the chamber? Iíll tell ya...that 58,000 psi of gas comes into the breech and often makes you think ďkaboomĒ.

Stell case ammo isnít bad by definition, but bad if there are occasional defective cartridge cases.

Most certainly.....but defective cases come in both flavors.

My point was there is nothing particular about steel cased ammo that makes it any worse or more vulnerable to kabooming a gun than brass.

In the unsupported example, that is a chamber design defect, and it can contribute to a problem with any ammo.

All rifles leave a ‘bit’ of the case supported. Yes any case can fail...but many reports of steel case issues in FALs have been reported.
So no one is saying ALL STEEL CASE has an issue, or Is more of a risk than brass cases.

Just some Russian case .308 steel case ammo has cases that fail at the base and FALs have have common reports of this failure.

My apologies for being "that guy", but does anyone know off of the top of their head whether someone offers a lacquered steel version?
