Default Question on Parts Kits imports..

Another vendor here is claiming that their form 6 application to import AK kits is being rejected due to the front trunnion being included in the kits. They claim new import regulations are requiring the front trunnion to be demilled with the barrel. Seeing that you are involved in importing all kinds of stuff have you heard any word on this? Or does this guy not know what he is doing?

He knows what he's doing but I think its a case of misunderstanding. I think there's more demand for AK kits than the other stuff really. What other part kits have the network and following like the AK?

So the beloved agency that handles imports is hit or miss. They really don't know what they are doing sometimes. I was denied an import on a vepr.... They told me "the technician stated it wasn't importable due to the VRA." I followed up with a reply that the vepr is exempt to the VRA which is in the list in their own printed handbook, and maybe the technician should familiarize himself with their own rules.

I was then told "the technician determined the rifle parts were not from a vepr, but from a Russian PAK". I thought to myself WTF IS a PAK... Want to know what a PAK is? Scroll down...

This is how intelligent some of these people are. Seriously.

I have been doing this before you were born.
[Educated guess on my part]
I sent Richard a copy of the exact email, he is younger and smarter than I am, and he [only] knows what he is talking about.
Cut and paste of ATF email:

Good morning Mr. Bowman,

Please see the attached document, specifically the last paragraph as to why front trunnions are not importable.

Oh, this is what that e-mail was about!
I was going to call Bob and ask about that e-mail with the .PDF attachment.
HOWEVER! Today was not a typical day, we are working in house to improve work flow and my IT support knocked out the phone system for several hours!

As I posted on another forum....

Hummmm...I see a "minefield marker" very clearly posted here, and yet you are asking that I step right on in and try and safely navigate my way thru!

This is Bob's business and his communication with Import branch.
It may come up the next time we chat, and I may share my point of view with him, but the people/companies I work with expect me/APEX to keep any information confidential.
I ask the same of them.

Now, if something were published in the Federal register, or a new directive or Executive action had been penned, anything relevant in the public domain, I would certainly share a link and any pertinent text.

Richard
