Default PSA any shade tree-diyers have HF jackstands / recall notice

just ran across this, i've got a set up the 3 ton grey/silver ones that i've had for several yrs, barely used maybe 2 or 3 x..

gotta check the serial #s in the morning & see if they're the ones with this possible defect.

3 ton & 6 ton models # 56371, 61196 & 61197

^ has details in the video of the USDOT assessment & HF recall notice

^goofball using the stands attempting to "upset" the jackstands

I have a Harbor Freight Jack, but my jackstands are made in the USA for this very reason. I'm not crawling under a 5000 lb truck held up by nothing but chinesium

Thanks for the notice , I checked both my 3 ton (MACK) and 6 ton (HF) and I'm G2G.

62393 6 ton's here that I have had ~10 years, and no issues.

I never remove the floor jack when using jack stands, I just place it where it will not be in the immediate way of the work going on. Having two floor jacks always helps so you don't have to go back and forth.

Same here.

And even though my HF jackstands are not recalled, I'm thinking it's time to just buy something a little less shitty. Don't have the one head and I'd rather not have a car squish it.

The older HF Jack stands are OK before the Beancounters told them to cut costs around 2013.

ahh fuck it just pick the dam thing up with the loader and let it hang from the tree saver strap I guess?

This. I slowly lower the jack until the vehicle rests on the stands, then bring the jack back up until it exerts mild pressure right where it was.

I use a QuickJack setup. Dang nicest setup I have ever used. Made in China. Still use jackstands when using them. Don't necessarily trust Chinese hydraulics...

I have some older US-made Craftsman jackstands, however, if I were in the market for new ones I'd buy OTC or Norco or some other US made stand. What's your life worth? Some tools just aren't worth cheaping out on.

I still have 6"x6" oak shoring blocks for when I'm working on anything equipment-wise. My brother has a set of HF Jack stands he bought 4 years ago to hold up his 48 DeSoto and they're still holding the car up.

Hard to beat good ol' wooden blocks, but they are kind of cumbersome to store and use.
