I sent in my upper hand guard to a maker of US wood stock sets. Those brown plastic handguards are butt ugly.
Besides myself, anyone interested in these? |

I would be.
Lots of Tantal kits out there, would be nice to have some USA made handguards for them. |

I would go for one myself, subject to cost/quality of course. Plastic is butt ugly.

I could possibly be interested, depending on cost and time frame of availability. how long would we wait? Is this both upper and lower handguards? Wjhat do they look like? cost?

I sent the handguard to Matt Shuster at Ironwood Designs. Matt makes great furniture for AKs and FALs. He said he'd take a look at making them. No promises. I do not know what he'd charge.
IMHO, cutting the slot in the front groove for the spring may be tough. Walnut is not as sturdy as plastic on thin areas. I'll let you know what I hear from Matt. |

Yes, any chance of getting them in a laminated wood?

Matt is a good guy! I was over at his shop this past Saturday picking up some seconds when I asked him about uppers. He didn't have any in stock, but he was going to work on some in about a week or so... I think he also mentioned something about doing some special work for some guy? maybe that was you!! but then again... the last time I was there he was working someone's special slant cut AK buttstock. So in other words... it seems he's always working on something special for someone. |
