Default Whom here is a car stereo guru?

Back in '04 I spent some bucks on audio for my Ranger. Front and rear MB Quart with separate tweeters. JL sub. Eclipse amp and Eclipse 3434 receiver. I know the receiver was not 'high-end' per se but the whole system kicked ass until I sold the Ranger a couple of months ago. Yep I ripped it out and still have it.

Now the truck I just bought came with a Blaupunkt that is a TOTAL POS! FUCKING TOTAL POS!!

So today I installed the Eclipse (receiver only) and shazam!!!!!!!! Now at least I have a radio......the rest will be installed later.

So I start thinking today that before I install the rest maybe it's time to get another Eclipse and low and behold they are no longer in business. SHIT! cause I really liked it.

So here's the question cause I don't want no POS wallmart Sony.

What is a decent medium grade CD/receiver with a full set of pre-outs? Pre-outs are important.

Ive been installing in the 12 volt industry for 4 years professionally.

Eclipse, Pioneer, and Alpine are all good decks.

This years line up of pioneers don't have 3 pre-outs til the higher end though.

The good thing about Pioneer, provided you have three pre-outs is the base audio control. For the ultimate head unit look att he 800 and 880 prs. I reckon the 6200BT and 5200 HD from last year would have 3 pre-outs.

Stocks on the deck you get a 7 band EQ, usually with manual slope adjustment too. You get high-pass filters for the front/rear right on the decks as well as sub control (on/off/invert) with low pass filter and amplitude adjustment. You'll also get SLA and some other goodies.

BTW you wont get anything close to the adjustments on a stock pioneer on an alpine unless you get a top end deck with the imprint function, or you use a separate electronic crossover AND EQ. But alpine are pretty solid built. The one complaint I have about them is the USB ports on alpine. Each deck seems to only offer I-pod integration via proprietary cables as opposed to directly in the USB.

important to know your amp configuration. you just have one two channel for your subs & running your full range off the head unit or 2 separate amps for subs and full range speakers? if 2 amps are you running your full range off a 4 channel or in parallel off a two channel? my last system I set up for simplicity and it worked great. used a lower end unit with only one preout, split it at the amps & ran two 2 channel amps with built in high/low pass crossovers with my full range run parallel 2 ohm load. easier & cheaper on the cabling too. not as much adjustment but that just keeps my eyes on the road more anyway instead of tweaking the knobs the entire time...

Now my head hurts.

I don't know.......amp has a wire harness and everything plugs in. I just want to plug in the way it was. Front L-R, Rear L-R, Sub

what model # is the amp? I'm not as familiar with all the newer shit. sounds like a 5 channel amp. if you dont really use the fader control to attenuate from front/rear channels you can still get away with a head unit with a single full range preout and sub out by using rca splitters. just something to consider, might save you some cash.

check crutchfield.com. They list many units with the specs also. They also have a speaker fitment prgram telling you which models will work in your stock mounting holes.
