I just built my Romy on a Ewbanks receiver. Had to trim the ejector on the rail....only I trimmed too much....now the shells will not flip out upon ejection.
Any way to build up with weld or what? Thanks.... |

Weld and regrind to shape is the best option.

Mig weld the ejector and grind it to the shape you need. (Use copper backing blocks on the bottom side of the ejector to help the weld be more uniform). Now reheat the ejector until its red hot with as fine a flame torch as you can to limit heating the surrounding area, and dump kasenit onto the ejector (try to pack it on while it is red hot.). Allow it to cool, clean the slag off and do it several more times to case harden the mild steel you added to the ejector. Heat it one last time and quench it. I did the same and it worked for me, my problem though was improper heat treatment, I had to add metal to the peened over part and do the same procedure. No wear now after several hundred rounds.
IF you have tig available, use this wire which is made for 4130. It is aircraft stuff. Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co. 452 Dividend Drive Peachtree City, Ga. 30269 1-770-487-2310 Oxweld welding rod 1/16th diameter p/n 03-27000 $4.30/pound Last edited by acmech; 11-14-2005 at 08:52 AM. |

Thanks much guys.....that is exactly what I will have to do...sounds like the heat treat is the key to success.
