Hi all,
I'm thinking about buying a bulgy milled Rec. Parts kit And had a few questions, how much harder( or easier) is A milled kit to build than the stamped kits? Would I need a virgin Bbl or could I use a Bbl. From say,a Romy "G"?If not- Who has chrome lined barrels for these kits? What about the bbl.s at APEX? Who makes rivets for these kits,Akbuilder maybe? Is there any issues with fitting the cover plates? Finally, who makes the best milled receivers for the bulgy kits? CNCWarrior?firing line? Did I miss any other manufacturers? Thanks |

I too have explored this option and from what I have found out. The barrel from an AKM(romy) will not work. The Journals are too small for the milled componets. Now the journals on the Yugo barrel are the right size but the hand guard retainer slot is in wrong spot. You could make a yugo work if you welded up slot and recut. There may be other mods I have missed. There are some american made barrels floating around out there for these milled kits. I believe What a country had the kits and barrels together for 175 but are gone now. If you go to Gun things.com he has the kits and below them he lists the correct barrels for 75 dollars. As far as a receiver you can't go wrong with CNC warrior. Also at one time Kvar had milled bulgarian 47 barrels on there site. They are pricey but its an option.

Thanks for the info. On the Bbls. Looks like Green Mountain has one that'll work too.
IDK about K-Var..that might be cool. I was looking at CNC Warrior's stuff He's got alot of variety for sure! The kit for the stamped Romy kits is calling my name also. I do however, wish they had a mark(?)for the Bbl. Pin location like firingline's show. So, is a milled receiver build easier or harder than a stamped Rec.? It doesn't look much different than a Nodak as far as riveting, which leads to the next Q. Who has rivets for these? |

Apples and oranges, they're two completely different animals. You really need to decide which one you want to own, not which is "easier" to build. Don't take this the wrong way but if you simply want a learning experience, do a stamped kit. By the way, I'll assume you're asking about rivets for an NDS build...try Google, ak + rivets t

I picked up a kit and a KVAR slr95 barrel for it. The barrel is drilled on a 90 degree hole for the gas block.Unfortunately the gas blocks are not available.
So I bored out a 74 gas block on my brothers bridgeport w/ a adj. head. The front and rear sight blocks are ok but the lower hand guard ret. will also be from a 74 or a romy as the bbl is grooved. I also have threaded the muzzle. I also found the polish pistol grip at apex matches my bakelite handguards perfectly. Now I'm just waiting until I can afford the romy underfold receiver at cnc warrior as the folder on this kit appears to be the same as a romy. I've built both milled and stamped and prefer milled as they are easier....but cost more...but then the finished rifle is worth more. |
