Default Hmm, I got a feed problem

This is not my first reweld by any means but the first one that has not went well. As customary when I get a build done I go out and fire a mag into the side of the draw. First three shots went well, then a failure to feed, had to release the mag, then maybe two more failures in the thirty. I was outside in a 30 mph wind so it wasn't the best for examining but it appeared the bullet guide was not guiding so to speak, and the lip of the brass was hung up on it. Upon inspecting the failed cartridges when I got to the shop I noticed all had the bullet pushed into the case and a gull mark on the case lip, I could also freely spin all bullets. They were factory Remington brass FMJ and other than a normal AK ding all the other cases looked fine. The only other thing I can say is I did not lube the gun in any way so I am wondering if that did not contribute to it? I have always shot new builds dry just so I don't have to mess with grease if I have to work on it. It is a very well worn Yugo M70 shooting out of a Bosnian Lilly mag. I had finnished the gun some time ago but just now found some time to go shoot it. Any suggestions? Thanks

Might be the front of the mag is sitting a little low and the bolt is pushing the round into/below the ramp.Next range trip hold the mag upward and forward and see if that eliminates the problem.

You may be right but when the bolt is forward and you wiggle it up and down it seems just as tight as my Norinco wich is my only factory built gun. Something I didn't mention was there was a few times the bolt seemed a bit sluggish, I checked the rails and didn't see any problems, it reminded me of a 1919a4 when it needed lubed but I am not sure how that would affect bullet angle going into the chamber? I will take some other mags next time I shoot, this is a Bosnian gun with Muslim carvings so I kinda disignated this lilly mag to go with it.

You can try the same mag, empty and see what kind of play there is,up down(rock it forward and backwards) and sideways. This can tell ya somewhat what you have, play wise that is.It just sounds to me like the front of the mag is sitting low is all.

When the mag is in and bullets in it,the bolt is hitting the bullets in the mag so it will feel tight.Still try this method first.I had one that did the same same.I ended up polishing the ramp and had to tighten up mag seating.

Check to see if the feed lips on the mag are touching or at least close to touching the bottom of the lower rails.

ive had that problem. just filed the mag catch down a little and that set the mag at an angle that was easier to feed

OK, had some time to go out to a safe shooting area. Took two mags, one the Bosnain one and one Yugo. Tested running a mag out on the tarp by the charging handle and noticed several failures to extract. They would come about half way out and then the next round would nose into the case. Bolt also seemed sluggish on forward travel. Took the top cover off and reached under the pickup and got a finger full of grease from the freshly serviced tie rod and coated the rails. This seemed to help the sluggishness so I shot the loaded Yugo mag with no issues at all. I was a little amazed so I put in the Bosnian mag and fired both fast and slow with no issues. I guess it needed the lube, the only explanation I have is there is no recoil at all and barely has enough to cycle the rifle. I guess the barrel is that worn out? I really wans't trying for accuracy just function so I will have to make another trip but I have a feeling it will shoot better than my eyes can see. Thanks! Aaron
