Default rust in bore question

I am looking at an Enfield rifle but it has some rust in the bore. Can that be cleaned out? Can the rifle still be shot?

any firearm should be inspected by a gunsmith before shooting. now that the disclaimer is out of the way. clean it as best you can. then shoot it. it should polish up with a few rounds thru it

It depends on how much rust you are talking about - how much is it? I know lots of guys who have wire brushed a bore clean and salvaged a rifle. They were cleaning up rusty areas - not nearly rusted shut barrels.

Starting last year, I've used Brownell's VFG pellets and J&B polishing paste with very good luck myself. I start with the intensive pellets and scrub like mad. I use the jig that holds two of them together in series.
