Default Need Help with "Yugo" M5/66 SKS Firing Pin Removal

I am trying to clean all of comsoline out of a "Yugo" M5/66 SKS and am having trouble removing the ping that hold the firing pin in. I have tried to tap it out with a punch, but am having no luck.

Can anyone tell me the secret to this one.

Thanks

You just need to get a BFH and don't hold back. Those retaining pins are in there very tight and must be forced out.

I had hell getting mine out because I tried to ease it out. I have a hockey puck with a hole cut in the middle that I used to support the bolt while I drove the pin out. Thought I was gonna break the bolt in half before that silly pin finally gave way.

But another option may be to get some break parts cleaner with the little tube nozzle and just squirt as much of that stuff inside the bolt to clean out all the cosmo and other crud. That's what I do now to clean after shooting.

Well, I had a chnace to try it again tonight. I used a 4lbs BFH, and a nail set (used to hammer nails below the surface of wood), and a couple of scrap 2x4 blocks.

I tried the nail set since it tappers wider the further you go from the tip. A couple of good hits with the hammer and the pin started moving.

From what I can see, there is not firing pin spring. Is this correct for a Yugo 59/66?

Yep. They don't have fp springs. Hope you remembered which way the fp came out so you can replace it back the same way. It only goes in one way, so pay attention to where the hump goes when you re-install it.

Texas Patriot,

Thanks for the information, when I originally put it back together, I did not notice the "hump", but your reply got me thinking.....

Its in correctly now.

Thanks
