Default China's New Drones Raise Eyebrows

ZHUHAI, China—China is ramping up production of unmanned aerial vehicles in an apparent bid to catch up with the U.S. and Israel in developing technology that is considered the future of military aviation.Western defense officials and experts were surprised to see more than 25 different Chinese models of the unmanned aircraft, known as UAVs, on display at this week's Zhuhai air show in this southern Chinese city. It was a record number for a country that unveiled its first concept UAVs at the same air show only four years ago, and put a handful on display at the last one in 2008.

This is the future of warfare.

Thermal imaging
More unmanned weapons.
Robotic weapons.
Artificial intelligence.

You will see automated weapons from small arms ammunition, to armor to aircraft.

Just the beginning.

Machines obey orders without question or conscience.

If you wish to kill one of your fellow men, no matter who or why, you should be willing to put your own life on the line to do so. It is the ultimate restriction on such activity. That only the most vile are subjected to removal by members of their own species.

Now we will have people sitting in offices, or trailers, deciding who lives, who dies, with no risk to themselves, and the machines will do their bidding.

This is Pandora's Box that mankind should never have opened.

Just in a theoretical situation, a SHTF scenario...

If we (armed civilians) were up against UAV's, what kind of tactics could we use, other than hiding in bunkers? AA guns? I can't imagine that we would have much of a chance against these things.

They have to land somewhere, sometime. If only to rearm...

You have to out-smart the operator.Appear to be something you are not. Overwhelm the unit with thermal targets, thousands of them. Thermally sheild so thousands appear as a few. Study SunTsu. Every technology has a weakness.

Some good points made here about the strategy of dealing with these things but I have to admit than in any future armed struggle, thermal imaging scares me more than any other thing.

For now, anyway.

Very, very tough to beat and even if you shield your heat sig the heat goes somewhere and a decent operator can figure out by the amount of heat what he is dealing with.

Putting out a thousand heat signatures is not easy, takes time and considerable effort.

We need to capture some of this tech to use in the same way that ground forces would use it against us to level the battlefield, so to speak.

As far as aircraft with this technology, they simply have to be destroyed. On the ground, in the air, wherever and however we can.

FWIW, I'm not even to certain how well a bunker or tunnel complex would shield our heat sigs. There has to be some ventilation and these thermal imaging systems are obviously getting better and better.

They are now being used by law enforcement as well as the military.

Platoon Leaders are being outfitted with $10,000 binocs with thermal imaging capability.

There is a big difference between the capabilities of ground forces and air support, however, and what ground forces carry has the capability to be captured.

It's hard to get a design to 35,000 feet without alerting NORAD, so home brew SAM sites will literally be "hit or miss." At that altitude, anyway. The black helicopters will be a little more vulnerable and the blimps, cooked geese.

Also, maybe some veteran who knows the technology, will come out with a manual on tracing the radio signals that control the drones. Then, some MIT patriot can make a counter-measure for the People to use to defend the "lady" and "baby" heat signatures.

Where's John Connor when we need him!?!

Somebody already hacked the video signal our drones send back to the operator. Apparently the feed is not scrambled or encrypted, it's just like grabbing free satellite TV signals, all you need is the right equipment and software. The worry was the targets of such drones could literally watch themselves on TV and know a strike was about to happen, allowing them time to scatter and escape. I would hope they have since corrected this, but considering how expensive it would be to redo all existing equipment I kinda doubt it.

You can thank Bill Clinton for giving China the UAV technology & to shut down our missles. Remember the official reports of UFOs shutting down our nuclear missles? It ain't little green men, it's little yellow men remote piloting UAVs.

The Traitor in Thief also emasculated our military superiority by cutting the budget on maintenance and new parts for our fighters and allowing queers to openly serve. During the Clinton years our manufacturing capabilities which make this country strong have been destroyed and now everything is made in China. Even the military's shoes and berets are being purchased in China thanks to that pervert.

This is the key, anything else is only defensive and might work until they overwhelm you and your supplies with enough machines. You would have to MAKE THEM PAY personally for their crimes against humanity.

On the run from the Govenator Hank

I do like the idea of using heat to beat thermal generators. Also I seem to recall that you can use a high powered laser to "burn" optics. They don't need to blow up drones in flight, just remove the advantage they posses. The immortal magicians law of "make them look at the one hand while the other does the work" is also perfect the drones can't be everywhere

Encrypting these signals should be easy enough to accomplish and I am sure that they have.

It will be a constant tech war to overcome one, then defend against it, etc.

The face of warfare is about to change dramatically. What we are seeing here is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Consider the advances made during WWII. Now look to where we are now and consider a WWIII scenario in a decade or two. Beyond sobering. A man is about to become worth less than he has been for hundreds of years.

notice they limit domestic lasers? what would that mod take?

cardboard tanks, as above, "thousands points of light",
to use the enemies quote against them.

seriously, the longer we do their work for them,
the longer they allow us to live.

unless they're that stupid.
