Default Another Question on Kits

Hi,
I am gathering information to build a kit and since I have not built one before, I am finding I have a lot of quesitons. I have been looking at receivers (80%). At least three different thicknesses; which should I buy? Also, some of the receivers have dimples pressed into them on each side, some don't. What are these for and do I need them or not?
Thanks,
PappyRon

the dimples align the mag properly under the bolt and reduce wobbling when the mag is locked in.
can't help ya much on the flats thickness.

Most of the 80% receivers come with lower rails that help align the mag, the dimples are mainly cosmetic on these. Personal taste as to whether or not you "need" them.

Receiver thickness again mainly depends on personal taste. Most kits were originally built with the thin 1 mm receivers and the new replacement one in that thickness will fit with no issues. The thicker ones generally require you to file/mill/grind some material off the trunnions to compensate for the thicker receiver wall. Ditto for the stock. The thicker ones are stiffer and stronger, but the original 1mm ones seem to be strong enough. Yugos are a special case as some of them require the RPK type receiver, thicker and with a couple widened sections at the front to accomodate the trunnion.
