For me it started last weekend and thats the black powder season. My favorite is the late season primitive flintlock deer season that starts Dec.26th to mid Jan.I love that time,It's about 20 degree's and a few inches of snow on the ground and no orange required, the deer are back to their normal patterns and are not as spooked as the earlier rifle season. And then there's the issue of the flintlock not firing when the deer is at the end of your muzzle and to me that's the sport of it i like...some times the deer gets to walk away for another time......

Down here in NoGa rifle season started 16 October and runs to 1 Jan.

I've done my scouting ... there's good sign and probably the best acorn drop I ever seen. I seen a number of does around.

This is a pretty hectic semester at school. I got classes 4 days and 2 night so I ain't been out yet ...

I hope to find a *little* time maybe tomorrow AM.

I got an Enfield 2a (fake) Jungle Carbine in .308 that I'm thinking of taking out.

If I see that I can still get them in REAL close ... I might like to try my MAK 90.

I have never hunted, going to hopefully be doing so for the first time ever rather soon. Going to be using my PSL to hopefully bag a deer and donate the meat to the needy in my area.

Gun season begins next month. I like to use either my Parker Hale .58 Enfield pattern musket, or my Enfield made FAL. Late season muzzle loader is in December. I might try my Brown Bess, but most likely the P-H .58

Deer starts Nov 1 through the end of the month. My hunting party already scored a 602 lb moose (I was home in bed with a f** fever for the week) so the moose meat is in the freezer.
Hey Ted, I also carry one of those phony jungle Enfields, mine is an Ishy in 308. Mostly though I carry my 54 or 50 Flintlocks. The 54 is a 34 inch H.E. Leman the 42" is a PA swamped barrel longrifle. And when it's blowing snot, I carry the 44 Ruger single action hunter pistol in stainless.

Bow season has been in for over a month. Muzzle Loader opened today. Shotgun season opens just before thanks giving.

Total kill count so far 4 (3 Doe, 1 buck)

I use a PSE limited compound bow or my 10 Pt Crossbow for bow season, took them all with the PSE so far (crossbows are legal for all users now in MD)

For muzzle loader I use a Optima inline 209 primer .50.

No rifle season in Southern Maryland, We're stuck with shotguns only. I use a Remington 870 with a 24" Cantelever scope mounted rifled slug barrel with Hornady SXT slugs. Sub 2.5" MOA at 100 yards.

Yeah, mines an Ishy too ... I think a 1969 mod. year.

Iron sights or scope?

If a scope, which one?

I always thought that little carbine would make a good woods gun.

Hey Ted

I only have scopes on a M77 and a 7400 both in 30:06 both bushnells. 3 to 11 I think though I never raise them over the lowest setting.
even with bad eyes I still like an iron sight in thick country, easier to snap acquire. So my Ishy and My 44 nagants stays iron and are light enough to hump all day.

Bow season started Oct 2 and closes Nov 5th. Gun opens Nov. 6th and runs though into January. I'll bow hunt as much as the weather allows and one those cold days...I might have my tacticool or my AR-15 chambered in 7.62X39 (that is if I finish it). The wife bow hunts too, but she swaps over to the bang stick pretty quick after the gun season starts. Then she hunts with either a custom 280 Rem that I built or her 7mm RUM, her 7.62X39 AR sees some service too during the season...she did say she wanted to shoot a deer with her PSL this too, so that might make the mix.

As for what has bit the dust...nothing so far. I did miss a Black Buck doe a couple weeks back...

Thanks to the Genius of Exile reworking a photo of mine that is N706FP a trainer I rent that my wife calls my little blue dragonfly. areoprakt A-22 Valor. light sport aircraft 2 seater with the Rotax, 912s 100hp . Went back to it after 22 years and am pursuing my LSA certificate. It's a sweet little plane that has a great available weight load which is pretty important when your 6'4" and 250 pounds. cruises at about 85, stalls are mushing at about 30 lands out at typically 65, no real cross wind componant 8 knots max, 18 knots headwind so it's really a large ultralight. The only thing strange is for some reason when they decided to bring it to the US they converted to MPH not Knots so it can be a little confusing at first.
I havent had this much fun in years.

I quit hunting after getting shot at by some idiot years ago. Now I go to the butcher for a New York & stop by for a 6-pack. Unless I move to Alaska I won`t hunt anymore.

Bow season starts Oct 1 and runs until the end of December

Rifle season starts Nov 15 and runs to the end of November

Muzzleloader is mid December and runs for 2 weeks.

My favorite rifle is my Weatherby Mark V in .340 Weatherby. Two of the last 4 bucks I have taken have been with my Ruger Blackhawk Bisley in .45LC, it is more satisfying than shooting them with the rifle.

AKjim its in knots in every aircraft ive ever been in. all the charts (nautical as well as aeronautical) are in nautical miles. the longitude and latitude lines are all set up in nautical miles to where one minute = 1 nautical mile (i believe its minute). thats why its that way. i wish i still got to fly like i used to. i gave up learning to be an airline pilot because at the time the airlines were laying off left and right.

This stuff works.

A couple of years ago ... I almost had a deer fall on top of me.

Wow!

I would GLADLY give up a TESTICLE to learn to fly.

It has been a long time dream of mine.

That little b1rd is BEAUTIFUL.

Expensive?

Kits?

Does it come with wing mounted guns?

I always loved that cartoon by Bill Maulden of the GI spotter in a Piper Cub with his .45:

"Lets drop down and STRAFE them!!!

If I remember correctly ... the last aerial combat in WW II Europe was between a befuddled Fishler Storch crew who was just trying to get someplace safe ... and a fired up Piper Cub Jock with a 1911 Colt .45 !

The Piper won!

Bow runs for October, muzzle-stuffer the first two weeks in Nov, then rifle until the first Sat. in Jan. So far, they have all been safe. Have seen an awful lot of turkeys, tho.

I didn't have the time this year, Moose and Caribou were Sept 1-20Th, Black bear year round limit 3, Brown bear Aug 10Th threw may 31 limit 1 per year. Wolf Aug 10 threw may31 limit 5
wolverine Sept threw end of march limit 1. Coyote year round no limit.

There are still a few areas for Caribou open by permit only.

Fortis we have idiots up here also, but most of them are from out of state. Few years back a couple of non residents from the other supposed big state were caught with three moose they shot two days before the season opened. They pulled into the taco bell in Fairbanks right past a state trooper, with the three moose in the back of their rented boat. Two of the moose were cows, the other was a non legal bull. The jack asses got 3 months in lock up.

bow deer season has been in for about a week here but I havent bow hunted in a few years. at some point or another I have hunted just about everything in the woods. favorite to hunt is probably crows. dont know why but I just love to kill those bastards and there's no season or bag limit. wild hogs would be up there too. they eat good and have no closed season here either. gun deer season starts mid Nov here. about time to dust off the old Remington 30-06 and season the rifling. I would call it sighting in but its never off. there is just no limit to the fun you can have killing & grilling tasty critters. to top it off the Cabelas Christmas catalog came as I was typing this...

My wife like to hunt on the ground and has had numerous deer walk right past her. I've posted this pic before, but its great camo worth another peak.
