My father in law has a great shirt "Kids, the gift that keeps on taking". I smile every time I see that one because I can relate. My oldest is 25 and finally off the payroll.

My wife has always been pretty good about talking to our girls about things, being firm, etc. I think they have a good foundation.

My oldest daughter is 24, I remember well her first longterm boyfriend, yep, her cherry popper, I did my best to get along all the while knowing his days with her were few...He, as his father was, a mortician....oh.....sigh...

My now 15 year old daughter is now on probation for her second crime of assult, she is awaiting a hearing on the first crime of criminal mischief and her sentence will now be compounded by the second offense...WA state....her mother and all her wisdom who took my daughter away from her daddy last year...the price they will pay now.

I'm kinda glad I have a son to raise now....as for my advice to him on women...shoot and scoot as it were....

The younger, well, I had the happy experience of a boy coming to see her and I just happened to be sitting on my front porch with my new Mossberg 500 when he walked up. Seriously, I didn't plan it, but I would not have changed it.

He was squeezing it, I think, but it didn't hurt because he just wasn't very strong.

In retrospect, he was apparently trying to intimidate me.

So maybe it worked, but just not the way he thought.

I didn't want to pork his daughter anyhow. I took her to Prom because my best friend could only get a date if I took her friend. No shit. Oh well. The things we do for friends.

i met my ex's mom at the door with my shotgun once. shes looney and was beating (not knocking, literally hitting the door as hard as she could) and i thought someone was trying to break in (it was after 10 and we were already in bed). then she came in my house yelling at me and my ex until i told her to get out or id call the police.

the whole gun cleaning routine doesnt work on me obviously since more then likely the dad would be the one outgunned. then again well over a year after my last relationship im still in no hurry to get in another one.

the most important thing is to have a good relationship with your daughter. I have two (ten and thirteen). you have to spend a lot of time with them, and make it enjoyable for them. Besides, now my girls would rather stay home and clean my guns with me. they both love to shoot, and know not to take crap from anyone.

when she was at home the one gun cabinet with the glass in front was 3 feet from her bedroom door with 3 FAL and 2 AK rifles with mags stuck in clearly visible, i scared off 3 this way and warned the one she is with now about the three SSS.

I think that's spot on. My girls aren't too keen on cleaning but they both enjoy shooting - especially my youngest. One of the best things we did a few years back was buy them each their own single-shot Savage .22. Man, those are accurate little rifles. Perfect size, accurate and safe. They now get to shoot my AR and AKs but we haven't moved up to the heavier recoiling ones.
