If you think these pics are bad how would you like to have to cut these up and dump them in the scrap. (the oldest I seen was 1950!!!)

Dad was a base commander in nam. he allowed rods to be welded in the bore, then allowed those to be given to certain troops for war trophies.

it's worth a try, since the mag idea flew.

now the only ones that get to bring back the welded bore (and a lot more welded the action won,t even cycle) is the unit to hang in the HQ and they are still treated as sensetive items but are CO didnot want to fool with it. And the mags we brought back had to be funcanlly demilled they didnot work.

The type 1 is cool. I know of 3 Semis here and haven't seen or heard of any others.

That's a shame. Hopefully, someone is saving some of those parts. The one that really hurt are the pics of the Germans unloading pristine G1s off a truck to be smelted down.

Is the commander aware that the UNIT can bring back fully functional trophies for the unit. These are really good for displaying during recruitment drives to recruit new members, build good public relations with the public, and use for training purposes in the unit itself.

Plus, they are good for fun shooting during unit member's weapon qualifications.

Destroying the guns makes no senses at all. Makes about as much sense as killing a woman because someone else might screw her.

Their is alot of paperwork with customs to bring back demilled weapons and even more for fully functional and every one is scared of oversteping their athority so no one makes a call. These weapons belonged to an Afghan Boot camp. That Blackwater was somehow incharge of they were suppose to bring us 450+ to cut up but after the first shippment of 150+ they got smart and decided to keep them. The Commands mentality behind cutting them up is if they are destroyed they cannot be used against US troops. I cut up about 25 of these babies I cut up about 25 of these babies

Are these T1 that rare? I guess that does make sense I imagine russia has scrapped all of their really old rifles. Afganistan is probally 1 of the only places left you would find A T1.

They gave them away, sold them, were stolen or scrapped them. The 3 I know of were pieced together from PLO captures that were imported form Isreal a few years back.

I've seen recent pics of "insurgents" carrying MP43/StG44s. Stuff has found it's way all over the world and nothing goes to waist. I've seen pics of equally museum status guns seized in Mexico and Colombia, etc.

Most the military units that want trophy weapons have more than enough. Especially Spec Ops units which probably have examples of every Com Bloc weapon ever made. They've been bringing them back since 'Nam and earlier. They aren't just for qual range play time either. They are deployed often for a variety of reasons.

There's nothing wrong with the type 1 AK's. It was originally designed as a submachine gun to use the same ammo as the rifle which was the SKS. When it was decided to replace the SKS with the AK and make it the Soviet's primary rifle a Soviet general insisted on the main rifle having a milled receiver. He didn't think the primary rifle should have a sheet metal receiver. 1949 was first year of standard production and that may have been late in the year as the ammo wasn't finalized until some time in 1949. Then full production of the RPD, SKS and AK-47 started. Likely more SKS's than AK's the first year.

I do find it interesting that there is a Crapco T6 stock attachment in the first pic and all the AMD65s don't have foregrips.

That's first I've heard of the reason to go to the type 2. I'd heard there was too much of a warpage problem with heat treating the receivers until later when they came back out with the AKM.
