Default range trip

i went to the range yesterday, took my mother and her boyfriend.

she wanted to shoot the sgl31 and my ruger lcp.
she did 60 rounds before we had to leave due to a family event.

she has fibromyalgia and doesnt have much strength in her hands, so she couldnt rack the slide on either weapon.

we applied for our CCW permits on the 6th, and once hers comes in she's getting an S&W .357 airweight with a CT laser.

im the fat guy! lol

and the skinny guy is her boyfriend.

Link to my photobucket album!

How'd you get that ACU pattern on your Photobucket page? That is pretty cool.

That`s cool man, but a .357 airweight? That sucker`s gonna have a sharp kick, no matter the hand strength. I had a Ruger sp101 & may get another, stout little gun & has enough weight to tone down the recoil.

she shot one already!, she liked it more than the lcp. the lcp is too small to get a good grip on, but the S&W with its soft rubbery grips was alot easier for her.
she cant rack the slide on the LCP, and she can fire it just fine, but even with her small hands its hard to get a good grip on it.
its a damn small gun lol
and besides, its not like she's going to be using buffalo bore .357 +p.
and she certainly wont be in any firefights.
our town isnt phoenix bad, but it isnt good either.
most of our crime is the 15-30yr olds snatching purses and breaking into cars, with the occasional armed robbery.

which is why we will be CCW'ing.

If she likes it, that`s all that matters, kudos to her. My Mom is limited to .22`s & my Dad`s .40 S&W sits brand new in his nightstand, unfired. He bought it 10 years ago.

im actually losing weight, im seeing a dr now, and ive went down a few pants sizes already.

62 to a 54.

until my back was injured on the job, i never let my weight get in the way.
my back injury went untreated and turned into degenerative disc disease and has left me a shell of a man that i was just 2 years ago.

but im trying to change that, im losing my weight, taking care of my thyroid problem, and a few other problems so i can get back surgery.

am i fat, yes.
but it doesnt make me any more or less of a man than anyone else, here or IRL.i may be morbidly obese, but atleast i didnt vote for the kenyan kommie.

What was said was right. Enjoy your family. In much need of some range time here, too. Nice toys, btw.

In some states, when you qualify for the CCW or CCL, the type of handgun you qulify with dictates what you can carry. In Texas for example, if you qualify with a revolver, that's the only type you can carry. Qualify with a semi auto and you can carry both.

If she doesn't have the hand strength, that's that. It may be worth a try, if your state is like Texas, to see if she might be able to rack a slide on some semi auto (in Texas I believe it has to be at least .380, could be wrong but your state may have caliber requirements too).

Even if she doesn't ever plan to carry a semi, it might come in handy if one is left in a car by someone else and she drives it.

ours is semi or revolver.

hell you could CC a single shot pirate pistol (muzzleloader) if you could conceal a draco, you could carry it.

incase anyone noticed, the red charging handle...
its the one that comes with the sgl31 to keep it from poking through the box during shipping.

i put it in a baggie and boiled it, popped it on the charging handle and when it cooled it stuck. kinda like bicycle handgrips.
no more blistery ivan syndrome when going through tons of ammo ;-)

I was thinking about buying that Colt Dragoon or 1851 Navy off of watchmaker and carrying one of those, if it was good enough for Wild Bill it's damn good enough for me. I'm a complete blackpowder newb though and I'd feel bad turning collector's pieces cared for like watchmaker's in to shooter/carry weapons. Guess me and my little pissed off 38. can keep making the rounds lol

Matt, are you the guy in the youtube video firing a full auto Glock? J/K. Seriously though, Colt produced a bunch of their historic black powder guns in the 1970s and 1980s. I bet you could get one of those to carry. The metalurgy will be better, the parts wont already be worn and you wont be shooting a historic original. They cost a few bucks, but they are worth it. Take it from another black powder nut.

Watchmaker's aren't originals. The Colt 1851 navy was made in the 1970s by Navy Arms and the Dragoon was made around the same time or a little later by one of the italian companies that handle that type of thing.

The historian in me would probably have a stroke if I ran around shooting a historic artifact like that.
