Default The Hurt Locker

I dunno if there was already a thread about this movie, if so, sorry.
Just curious what you guys thought about it. I can't believe it won 6 Oscars.
Well, actually, it's hollywood, so I can believe it, cuz they're so f**king retarded I should have saw it coming, but this was, IMO, the WORST war movie ever made.
I dont wanna "ruin" it for any of you who wanna see it, so i'll just leave it at this:
very, very unrealistic. almost to the point of being offensive. And the worst part is, when me and a bunch of Marines were done watching it (tearing it apart) we all agreed, the bad part was that it looked easy for cilivians to say "wow, that was cool" "thats how it must be over there" or some other stupid shit.

I agree it was a pos, pissed I payed $3 to watch the rental, wouldn't even be worth seeing on free t.v.

Generation Kill was good, along with we were soldiers, and band of brothers. Looking forward to seeing the Pacific. At least those were written with the guys that were there.

Generation Kill was for the most part right on. Yes, even the Marine getting some "road vibes". This October will be 19 years since I got out and 25 years from when I went in.

I was entertained watching the Hurt Locker, The story was about a person only being comfortable in the military, the real world not being enough for him. Too bad they got everything around him wrong. More research would have made this movie a classic for the ages.

There were many over the top moments but my favorite NFW scene was when they met the British contractor team. Pro operators out in the open getting sniped and not finding cover then to have the EOD team take all the time in the world to make the .50 shot, WTF?

I'm sure the director though she got it spot on.

one big WTF part was when he just LEAVES the base in civies aand a pistol to get revenge on a kid who ripped him off for a DVD. WTF, then to top it off, he gets caught sneaking back on base and says he was at a whore house.... the guards reaction... "ill let u go if u tell me where it is"

plus the fct that a 3 man team is rolling aorund iraq alone, in a single vehicle....

WTF

plus the total lack of tact/bearing, cowboy, do whatever you want attitude displayed the entire time was just offensive.

I know its just a movie, but ive heard so many people say how great it is

My gramps told me a story about sneaking off base right after fighting stopped in WWII in Germany. He and two buds quietly sneaked off base to party in some small town. This was right after Hitler was made into a Nazi candle.

Upon their return, they were spotted by a U.S. MP and they booked down a street near base. One turned the corner, my gramps made it, the last guy got a .45 cal ACP in the butt cheek. He just chuckled and shook his head. 101st 506th Easy Co. stories from the horse's mouth. He's 91 and really going strong. One of the last, on of the best Americans.

It was ok, except for the sniper battle. Friggen Hajiis making precision shots with a PSL at 800 yards......EOD guy fully trained on M82......other than that it was an ok watch. I love how they roll with NO support or convoy......

Sorry JH4L,

I'm w/ Scott, I liked it... Movies are kinda like that... I chose to look past the obvious bogus "stuff"... Maybe the movie got it cuz it was better than anything else...???

I'm partial to Band of Brothers...

It was way over the top, but still well done. I think the movie "jarhead" really caught what 90% of the military is about...utter bullshit and waiting around..

Band of Brothers was EPIC....but the whole genre has been overdone. WWII was an incredible time in history.....but what we see today is even more amazing. Soldiers are VOLUNTEERING to serve 3 or 4 terms in shitty living conditions, These new guys are the next generation of heroes. Think about it....weve been going at this for 10 years now.

I bring this up every few years.....go watch 'The Beast" Its about a Soviet tank crew in Afghanistan. Great movie, very moving wihout being all sappy and shit.

I thought it was great.

It's over the top and no doubt inaccurate but it's a movie, nothing more than entertainment and it certainly does entertain. But by the same token I can see why guys who have been there get pissed at it because of it's inaccuracies.

Just think about all those WWII vets who've had to watch some of the shit that hollywood has pumped out over the years.

Without a doubt...

We need another and have the next "Best Generation"

Thanks for making that point...

I really liked Black Hawk Down too, along with a ton of other war movies. There are too many to list but a couple more that stand out are Apocalypse NOW and Saving Private Ryan.I've been watching war movies since I was a kid,I think the first one was Kellys Hero's or the Guns of Navarone.I like 'em all.

Yup,

Just a movie.... It is propaganda, but there can be some value salvaged from it... Blackhawk down was "sensational"(I own the movie, it's a regular on Vet's Day) and Band of Brothers EPIC. Beast is Good! I want to see jarhead...

And +1 on Scott's input concerning our current stock of Teuton and Wiking warriors over there... I really am impressed when I see them standing at local store w/ uni and CIBs.... And I don't even know a thing about them... Other than the obvious...

"The Beast" was epic. A very intense flick. NO interest in the stupid Hurt Locker movie. I know too many young combat Marines, and for the most part any crap that Hollyweird puts out is just pimping these consummate professionals. These movie making types aren't even worthy to lay eyes on these men and women, much less make money off their sacrifices.

Funny thing about it...

There is a lawsuit over the movie - the writer was embedded with an actual IED Unit and wrote about it - and the main character is so closely modeled after a real Master Sgt, and the documented experiences and actions, that a massive suit has hit been filed...

You can draw your own conclusions.

Me - I liked it.

Hurt Locker is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I still can't believe it was directed by a women no offence to women. I just know I can't read anything written by a women.

There's so much crap out there, I which she would have directed that POS Terminator Salvation movie.

Oh and by the way he was going out to get revenge on the people he thought had slandered the DVD kit and turned him into a body bomb.

Take thick syrup and sand - mix together and insert in mags and action...

Seems to me it would cause issues.

And also how about a reality check....it is a movie...you think they might have embellished things.....

Ya think maybe....
