There is a short rod that goes inside the spring, I think.
one small spring on each end of that The larger dia spring over it all The rod then slips into the top cover. Slip one end of the spring onto it and then slide the other end of the spring into the bolt carrier. Now push the guide rod into the top cover and then ease it up inside the top cover and let is slide back into place. Voila! That's it. Remember to do a function check It's a piece of cake once you get used to doing it.

If I don't have all the parts correct, let me know and I'll pull mine out of the safe and look at it.

Oh yeah, now that I think about it, there are different set ups depending on which top cover you are talking about.
Is it the scope mount cover with screws, or the slip in cover? They are different, and in fact, the scope mount covers have changed, IIRC. Bottom line is one end of the spring assembly goes on the rod, the other goes inside the carrier. I am sure I can walk you through it as I have dealt with all three kinds. Paras are definitely the way to go with FALs IMO. Recoil is diminished and cheek weld is better. For me they are at least. For the scope mount top cover I have, I got a spare rod though, just in case.
