Default Beauty queen Solange Magnano 'died for a firmer behind'

A former Miss Argentina has died after undergoing cosmetic surgery to get firmer buttocks.

Solange Magnano, 38, died of a pulmonary embolism after undergoing a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires, a normally routine procedure which involves placing implants in the buttocks to give them a firmer outline.

The mother of eight-year-old twins, who won the beauty crown in 1994, died on Sunday after three days in a critical condition. Roberto Piazza, a close friend, claimed that the procedure also involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain".

"This woman who had everything is dead because she wanted to have a slightly firmer behind," said Mr Piazza, a fashion designer.

Sad regardless. Sad and unecessary.

PEs are the result of DVTs (blood clots) that mobilize and plug the pulmonary arteries, cutting off the amount of blood flow through the lungs. Small ones occur on a somewhat regular basis with no notable symptoms.

DVT are almost always the result of prolonged inactivity. Post-op, long car rides, plane rides, etc.
I had one guy get one because he got a cable baseball package and sat around all the time watching the games. LOL.

This is why we now get people moving as quickly as possibly post-operatively. These used to kill a lot of surgical pts back in the day when they made you lie in bed longterm for almost everything. Oh boy, don't get me started.

I had one pt who had a CVA (stroke) as a result. He drove for 12 hours straight. Unknown to him and everyone else he had a patent foramen ovale--a septal defect or hole between the sides of his heart. Instead of the embolus going to his lungs, it got kicked over to the left side of his heart and went up to his brain.

You can also have fat emboli from bone fractures--compound fractures, generally.

There are also septic emboli but those are entirely different.

DVT is more common in pregnant women, cancer pts and some people have a hereditary risk. Smokers and those with an injury are also at higher risk.

Just and FYI

Keep moving!

Reminds me of the wifes grandmother.

At 88 she had a heart valve replaced and us up and out of the hospital in less then a week. She jumped in her car and drove off in about 3 weeks.

At 90 she had a hip replaced. The next day she was trying to get out of bed. The nurse and doctor had to work with her to wait, but she was hard to keep down.

She is a good example of how we need to keep moving.

Okay, from what I am reading it sounds as if they did fat injections rather than implants. They may have also used some other substance but in effect was fat emboli.

They went to her brain also?
That's what it said, so I would wonder if she had some septal defect also.

In any event, if that is the case, pretty clearly a case of medical malpractice. IMHO. They would have had to have injected right into a vein or have damaged a vein enough that fat,etc got into it and then went downstream.

What a waste.

I don't really get the whole cosmetic surgery bit. Putting foreign objects in your body and going through unecessary procedures for vanity. It's nuts.
During medschool I spent 2 months doing a plastic surg rotation and the reconstructive stuff was really cool. Considered doing that but the people who want all the cosmetic procedures are some real flakes.

FWIW, I spent the better part of those two months stitching nipples. No shit.

I agree completely

No one on this planet seems to want to take decent care of themselves or put any effort into it.

So throw some money at it...

Brainwashed by Maybalene.
Truly they are weaker vessels.

I just don't get that, Doc. I know, we are really only temporarily here, but I just can't see treating my body like it is anything less than permanent.

Even with that, our lives here are so much better physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually if we take care of ourselves and stay in shape. From what I see, it is the biggest factor in health.

It starts in childhood now. No one wants to parent, everyone is looking for the easiest way and with both parents working there is just no effort put into promoting childhood health. More important to placate them with crap food, video games and television. I look at some of these kids and it nearly brings me to tears. They are miserable inside and will die before their parents in many cases. People don't want to hear it though.

From my perspective it is a no win.
If you don't bring it up, mommies later get pissed because you never said anything therefore their kids being 100 or more pounds overweight must be okay. Later when they have health problems it is your fault. If you do say something they get pissed off because you insulted them and their child.

You wouldn't believe some of the conversations I have had.
