Default question on cutting a bbl?

Folk's, i have an amd-65 kit w/out a orig bbl. anyhow, i am debating on doin -either a standard amd build with a 12 and 1/4" bbl with the a threaded bbl so i could screw on and weld on a u.s. made tapco md. or i may do the amd-63 to avoid having to chop downa bbl......

so my question is: how do i cut the bbl down if i don't have costly tools? and i also don't even know where to start on re-threading, crowning bbl etc... this all just seems so difficult for a guy without a buttload of tools at their disposal.... does anyone know if there's a prof ak smith who can do this (just readying the bbl, welding on the md etc... or just getting it ready)?

here's my concern: i don't think the removal of the parts would be too difficult. what i am concerned about is wheather or not i can safely and surely cut the bbl down. also, can i safely and surely drill out the gas port and than assemble back together again in one piece? i am having doubts as i don't have many specialised tools at my disposal? let me know any pertinent info as to what tools i'd need etc... if the cost are too high, i may opt to send it to a prof to just do the work, or prep the front half for me. TIA

if you want to make a factory looking rifle i would go get it done by someone since new journals would need to be cut, after hand cutting/ filing journals i can tell you its something i wouldn't want to do again unless i had to onloy someone with a trained eye would catch the flaws on my barrel which is a small gap in the gas block :/ i diddnt notice it till i got the GB mounted
i would contact restoreit1 on here he dose some nice pistol conversions and has great coustomer service

thanks-Bro! i think i'll just make the 63! but thanks again for the heads-up! i just don't want to ruin the bbl in the case i f'k up.....

ambivolent - not sure if ya have a bbless amd kit yet? but i tell ya the one i landed me at CFS was sweet! numbers all matched, had about 80% finish intact, not perfect, but will build up to "as new" rifle, or close enough! i paid $169 otd-not too shabby. and these amd seem to work well from what i heard, also they fold up nice in compact! i've heard stories of of sum with a wobbly sf stock, but you can fix that easily with a new rivet! that's the only thing holdin it together-a rivet and a screw! ttyl--Jim

bigmegina - nice work! damn, ur getting the builds lookin sweet!

as i mensioned to-ambivolent i believe i'm for sure goin 63! why? don;t want to risk a $100 romy bbl i bought from -bigal in mkt place. thanks for the heads-up and nice pics! for realz-ur builds are lookin better than average!

question: what all do i need for the 63 buiild up? can i use the orig gas tube, or do i have to lengthen it or use a romie one? TIA.

FYI-guys my orig bbl amd on a nds-65 is near done! sorry i have not completed it yet, cause it turned out the solder i bought was too weak. but it is coming out very good! not perfect though-but close! i had one rivet at the rear left top that kinda got a sliver too wide. i dummied it up with a jewelers file, sand paper and a dremel.... you barely notice a slight widened rivet. all the others-look perfect! being my sling will cover that iffy rivet i can live with it. it should be done as soon as i get caught up.btw - i had a item stolen from me while i was away, plus i was on a trip to cali to visit with family-which took my time up......anyhow thanks the local Officer in charge my case, he actually located the items that where stolen from me! but rest assured it'll be out here soon in multiple pics! and hopefully a 63 soon thereafter!

question on pin punches! anyone know what sizes ill need for the small pins on the bbl? im not getting them from HF, but rather getting craftsmans punches. so i need to know what sizes. tia.
