How cheap can we build???

Figure 40.00 HTS set,50.00-70.00 stamped receiver,U.S. pistol grip and a
couple mag floor plates.100.00 kit = About 220.00? Is this correct?
That means I can build 3 of these for what it costs to build an FAL?
Who sells "out of spec" parts for an A.K. ? I want one I can "fiddle"with!

Why would you want to use US floor plates? I prefer to have all US parts IN the rifle, so that I can use any mag.

Here's the "cheapest" route that I could take:

1. AKM parts kit from the imminent group buy from Interordnance ($100 plus $10 S&H)

2. U.S. receiver from Joeken ($40 plus $10 S&H plus $20 transfer fee from FFL)

3. assorted screws, taps, drill bits for assembly (about $30)

4. AK compliance set from CAI, including U.S. made gas piston, pistol grip, floorplate, follower, hammer, trigger, disconnector (There's your out of spec parts!) ($30 plus $12.50 S&H)

5. one AK mag from gunshow- $10

Lets make it about $260 total, or $220 if you already have the tools and a mag.

usa fire control group: $40
usa pistol grip: $10
gas piston: $20
rivet set: $20

$285 or so for the basics.

add $50 for headspace/chamber gauges and a finish to suit your budget.

riveting tools can be home made or purchased inexspensively off the web.

a bbl. press and fixturing is the biggest stumbling block for most people.

Well some of us can barely screw the cap back on a soda bottle... so for those of us that fit into that school...

$110 for an AK kit
$70 for the receiver shipped (I don't pay transfers)
$50 RSA trigger group from sportsmansguide.com
$10 US pistol grip
$150 build, refinish and finetuning of the RSA trigger.

So for the rest of us schleps, around $390-$400 for a 47. Add $75 for a 74 due to the more expensive kit and the need for one more compliance part to use the original muzzle brake or to buy a US copy.

Might as well buy a rifle. You're getting into the moderate rifles at those prices.

How about a Saiga for $200, $80 for a US furniture set, $30 for compliance parts, for a total of about $310?

I bought a used SAR the other week for $70 private sale. $300 for a milled Bulgie SA93, a case of XM193 for a new Romak highcap 7.62... I know I can get them for less than a build, but the AMD63 is just unique.

I ordered a Hesse receiver and a rivet set from Joeken today for $58 delivered.
AMD63 kit for $138, going to see if I can get that down a little
Free RSA trigger group given to me by Ken
US gas piston around $25 delivered
Build with complete refinish $150

$371 for a professionally built AMD63, around $350 if I can get the price down. And the kit comes with a US semi trigger group, so the RSA isn't needed. That's $40 more than a converted Saiga and it is certainly rarer.
