You can make a shortened AK similar to a Krink, but the actual factory produced ones have several differences. The main one is the topcover is hinged at the forward end, the piece it attaches to is where the rear sight base would normally be. Inside this block is a pin which pushes out over the gas tube to retain it when the topcover is closed and retracts when it is open. The rear sight has also been moved to the topcover.
All those specialized pieces are rare and expensive outside of a kit, by the time you purchase them (if you can find them) the actual Krink kit may just be cheaper. If you just want a shortened AK that has the general looks of a Krink, it can be done much cheaper using modified standard AKM parts as you suggest. |
