Default 74 muzzle brake wobble?

I just got an ak74 built from a bulgarian parts kit, and i've noticed that the 74-type muzzle brake wobbles slightly. Is this normal? if I screw it on another half-turn, it locks up fully, but is in the wrong position.

It seems like the wobble would affect the gases and result in some accuracy issues.

Anyone else have brake wobble?

I have a 74 and that is normal.........my AKS-74U also has a wobble to the muzzle attachment as well......as for accuracy, yes it will affect it, I shot my 74 with and without the break on it, and there is clearly a difference. not much you can do about it, I guess you could try to wrap the threads with tefon tape to take some of the wobble out of it......but I'm not too concerned with mine having a wobble to it.......after all it's a AK, not some highly precision rifle that does 1 MOA.....as long as it hits a man size silouette, it's doing what it is designed to do.

the proper way would be to time the brake to do this as a gunsmith would do is to chuck the brake in a lathe and take a few thousands of the back where the threads are then test fit to see if enough was removed and he would do this till the locking detent is about 1/4 a inch from the locking pin and then maybe use a fine file or some crocous cloth just enough to get it to turn the rest of the way till it locks up tight and the pin engages the detent at the same time. I did this with nothing more than a fine file and some time but with a aftermarket 74 brake on a 47 rifle and needless to say there was a lot of slop to begin with but when done I could barely feel it wiggle when done.If you feel your not up to it than use the teflon tape as this is what I use to use too.

thanks for the suggestions. It sounds like teflon tape will be my route of choice, but sooner or later I'll give the 'correct' method a try.

Does the teflon tape make it difficult to unscrew the brake? I'm not familiar with this stuff so I don't know how adhesive it is or isn't.

it isn't any different then if you use on any other threads....it isn't a adhesive, the threads keep it in place.

really depends how much you put on, will detrime how difficult it wil be to take on and off........don't put so much on that there is no threads showing.....I would say maybe 2 layers would probably be good to keep it from wobbling
