Good day everyone -
IMHO ammo prices are through the roof and the roof is on fire! A great majority of retail stores can not keep wanted calibers in stock. What??? When they do receive a shipment it's merely a very small amount and not enough to even supply a few individuals in that community. Online stores are another frickin' ball game. Just like most of you; I like to find the best possible deal. More bang for your buck; no pun intended. ![]() What I have encountered is simply unreal. Independent online stores raising prices when quantities get low in their inventory. BS! 7.62x39 is out of control. *(surplus); which should be cheaper is almost the same damn price as name brand ammo. What??? It's surplus ... get real ... this stuff is corrosive and SHOULD NOT be even close to non-corrosive ammo pricing. 9mm is also out of control. When you are lucky enough to locate some; expect to pay more than you did just a few months ago. What the hell is going on with these ammo companies? It's time to step up to the plate. If you are an ammo manufacturer then produce more damn ammo! Yes ... I realize the concept of supply and demand. IMHO ... this is very lame excuse for these companies. Am I wrong here? Ammo manufactures are part of this price increase insanity. Do not fool yourself. They want your $$$$$ If we can't afford to buy ammo ... THEY ... win. Simple as that. Forget the AWB ... they want our ammo. Are you tired of this current ammo pricing situation? Good luck in your search for affordable prices. Your thoughts? |

I asked the same thing, but w/ clips and guns to be banned soon. I was told it does not make good business sense. I am not able to use the persuasive arguements I heard, but I came away agreing w/ the post even though I did not like it.
I am sure the ammo companies are happy and want everything to stay the way they are.

My bet is that AKs and mags do NOT get banned. I'm also willing to go on record and say that two years from this date there will be NO ban, but the scumbag gun dealers will still be stoking the flames and instilling fear in gun owners so that prices will remain high and they can continue ripping us off. I've heard some list members say that gun dealers and gun owners are in the same boat. Anyone that believes that is an idiot! Gun dealers are just peddlars and if every type of firearm was banned they would just go out and find something else to peddle. If they are on our side and love gun owners so much let them end their phoney speculation that has driven gun and ammo prices through the roof. Regarding Obama, he is as phoney as the gun dealers. He was a die hard, militant anti-gun proponent in Illinois, but morphed into a middle of the road position once he got onto the national scene. To date he has not and will not mount any serious attempt to ban firearms. While Obama is against guns, he is a shrewd politician and understands that mounting a serious attack on gun owners is not going to give him any discernible political advantage. This is a moot point and not worth arguing about. Time will tell. What isn't moot is the greed of the gun dealers. Mike |

However, there is a difference between price gouging and making an honest profit. Would you agree? Yes, I have purchased quite a few rounds and have payed the price. IMHO in the long run these prices just hurt everyone involved. Sad. Thanks for the comments. |

i keep wondering how much the ammo retailers had to do with spreading the "ammo accountability" b.s.. that really threw a chum bucket into the post election feeding frenzy.

Best thing to do is switch ammo types and just wait. I cant tell you how much cheap fun Ive been having with my 22lr, and now Ive started reloading. Seems that these crazy prices have been a good thing for me. I see no reason Obama will do anything about firearms.
Listening to all this BS is funny, I swing trade all the time, and remember that just a half a year ago people were saying oil was going to 200. Guess what happened to those people, same people that would have said the markets will just keep going up. Buy low sell high with everything you do.

I agree obama has taken the middle road.
Ammo companies would have raised their rates when metal prices were high a year or two ago. But now those critical metals are at a very affordable price AND labor is plentiful now. You could hire a guy for a buck or two less and hour w/o even trying and still get a skills oriented laborer. I now notice .50 bmg is 3.50$ a round and not 5-6 like months ago, so there is some things to buy and some to shun. .22 is still a caliber I can shoot all day. I still love single shot .22's. I go to the range w/ people and just piss them off as they are ready to leave, and I tell myself I'm going alone next time.

I absolutely agree with owning a .22lr caliber gun ... simply fun!
You can't go wrong with the price of the ammo. Shoot all day with no worries of draining your pocketbook. I own a Ruger Mark III standard model. Love this little pistol. Although, it DID NOT like Federal ammo ... jams and misfeads everytime. I did use Blazer .22lr ammo and it spit rounds like there was no tomorrow. Picky little guy, but heck ... what else is new? 500+ rounds for $15, how can you go wrong? Too bad 7.62x39 and 9mm are not the same price. I would be laughing all the way home from the range. Wishful thinking.

You 22lr guys have inspired me. I was visiting the local pawn shop to check out their firearms, and there on the rack was a Remington 597 .22 rifle in virtually perfect condition for $119. The guy had marked it down, because the operating handle could pull out. He didn't realize that that was the way it was designed.
I already had a Remington 581 bolt-action from a couple centuries ago when I was a kid, but I really wanted a semi-auto, and this model has a good reputation for accuracy. I have a pretty big surplus ammo pile stored in the ammo bunker, but I don't see any reason to use the big-bore stuff for plinking. |

Start casting and reloading. Stop thinking about it and take the plunge. Your equipment will pay for itself in short order. I bought a .40 cal carbine for the specific purpose of having something fun to shoot, that I could also cast and reload for. I picked up some high capacity mags for it and its a hoot to shoot. I can produce my own .40 cal rounds for just a few pennies more than I can buy .22lr rounds.
