I don't have a press.
I've gotton to the point on my Romy demil where I have to remove the barrel. But I DO have various automotive bearing pullers and I also have a MAC Tools air chisel...with a number of chisels I can machine down to do barrel removal. Has anybody done it BOTH ways and have an opinion on the best (easiest...with least chance of harming the barrel) of the two methods? CPO T Last edited by CPO TED; 01-12-2009 at 03:41 PM. |

Only done the pulley method and it works like a charm.
Easy to control and I was careful to use copper to protect the barrel. I do not have press so I can't say how that would work. |

CPO , I am a little biased from running air hammers for 35 years, but for
me it wasn't a question. An old copper slug from a spot welder tip and 2 minutes was all it took. But to tell the truth, the precision and control a press offers is a better way to go in mho. |

I just did mine with the air chisel.
Piece of cake...stack of pennies on the top...and it almost just fell out with the air chisel barely breakin' a sweat. I've scraped tougher rust! anyoldways now to blastin' and rust blueing!!! CPO T |

demilled 2 kits that way before i bought the press to bend flats. the p/s pulley puller works real good, i use an impact on it. make a flat punch for the chisel.
