Centerfire has agreed to include. a sling,a cleaning kit,(A link to the cleaning kit) http://www.centerfiresystems.com/miv...tegory_Code=PK and a pouch, (A link to the pouch) http://www.centerfiresystems.com/miv...Code=POUAKA-VB with each kit.( No mags thou) If interested in this group buy please post here. I will call them again tomorrow and get more details. Thats 104.95 plus shipping for the kit,9.95 for the cleaning kit,19.95 for the mag pouch, Thats a 143.50 value for 103.50 SHIPPED TO YOUR DOOR!!!! I will be adding more information tomorrow evening. Currently guaging interest. Please keep all responses to this group buy in this thread. Thanks LOST Update 11-18-03 , I placed several calls to Centerfire today to no avail. I assume they were not in the office.I will attempt to contact them again in the a.m. Hopefully I can get some more information. I will NOT accept money from anyone until we have atleast 10 participants and I can declare this a Sure thing. Thanks LOST Update 11-20-03, I talked to Centerfire , The kits have had the full auto parts removed, these parts have been replaced with the correct semi-auto parts. I am still trying to find out if these are US ( Compliance) parts or not. I will do my best to keep everyone posted. Armour. I will find out if a personal pick up option is available. As they are not local for me I will see if you can pick ALL the kits then they will ship.I dont know that they will do it but I'll try if you are willing. The kits are Grade C kits on the exterior. expect little bluing, But the rifling is strong with no pitting and the internals are very good. We are 1/2 way there. We only need 5 more people to declare this a GO! 11-24-03 I spoke with Centerfire re: the semi auto parts. the parts are NOT u.s. parts,But they are NEW semi auto parts. Im still trying to get this buy qty up to what we need.We are close . Just a few more and we are there. I guess I need to start looking for my compliance parts. :wink_smal 12-01-03 I spoke with Centerfire today, The contact person is Lois Cantrell, Her phone # is 1-800-915-3346 She will be handling the money end of this whole thing.Call her direct with your screen name from here on the A.K. files. ( By having her collect the money directly it benefits all of us TWO ways. One ,I dont have to wait on checks to clear etc. before having her mail product. Two ,She is set up to accept charge cards ( 3% extra fee) where as I can not. I have faxed the current list of buyers to her. If you have any remaining concerns please contact me LOST Last edited by lost; 12-01-2003 at 06:42 PM. Reason: More info on group buy. LOST ( Andy) |

I'm interested and naive about the AK group, but I've done my homework and am interested in a new system build. This kit comes with the trunion attached to the barrel, correct me if I'm wrong please? I am interested on screwing one together.

P806 Yes the trunion is attached to the barrel in the AMD-65 kits. Good luck on your build, and let us know how it progresses.

I'm very interested. Have you found out the possibility of the semi auto parts being US parts ? Also what do you do about the 12.6" barrel ? Long MB or what ? Haven't messed with AKs much. Thanks

these are grade 3 kits. the two i got in september were complete, and in vg condition, with 40% paint (finish). the buttpads were ex, and the p grips were a little dinged. these guns have been shot, but are in vg mechanical condition.
the trunnion is on the barrel, and i was able to drill and tap with 10-32. when you drill the rear trunnion, you will find the rivet goes all the way thru, and is a little larger than the #21 tap. get it from both sides, and the drilled thru rivet will spin out on the bit. the trunnions are very hard, so use plenty of cutting fluid. be prepared to reshape your tap to a bottoming shape for the front trunnion. very cool stuff. good luck in your builds.

Bandit-
In response to your question, there are several US parts available for the AMD-65. Federal Arms Corp. (gunsnstuff.net) has the best selection including a US made HTS set, US gas piston and both a barrel extension and muzzle break. You will have to buy ALL of these parts in order to be 922r compliant (with the addition of a US made receiver). You could also replace the pistol grips with US made PGs, but it will change the "look" of the rifle. IMO the AMD-65 is not worth it to build. The folding stock cannot legally fold, and the compact, short barrel has to have a barrel extention welded on in order to bring it up to rifle length (over 16"). If you're going to go through all that trouble why not just buy a rifle with a regular buttstock and full length barrel? The AMD-63 that Centerfire offers is a much better candidate for a build. It is in "like new" condition, uses a stamped receiver, has a fixed stock (which can be replaced with a US made stock), and has a full length legal barrel. Also, because the AMD-63 does not have a muzzle device your US parts count will be five US parts instead of six as on the AMD-65. Hope this helps.

1.)you have to do this with any AK kit 2.)thanks for your perspective 3.)wait a few months, or pin it shut 4.)add 1 3/8" to the front of the brake by welding on a peice of heavy/standard wall pipe, solder the brake on, and you're at 16 1/4" and 26 1/4" 5.)not really

NagantNut, If I need to defend why I am running this group buy. I
wouldn't expect you to understand,But, I can buy a full length fixed stock A.K from a number of places. I can buy a Krink kit in 762x39 from K-var for 399.00 Then buy my compliance parts and fix the stock open or register it as an S.B.R. and pay the 200.00 Or I can buy an AMD-65 kit. Install all the compliance parts.and still have WAY less than just the krink kit with No compliance parts. Will I have a Krink? No,But I will have a Compliant Mini-a/k variant for alot less money. Will it be the most accurate rifle I own. No. Will it be fun to build? YOU BET. Will it be fun to shoot? YOU BET. Enough said. ( LOST ) |

Use a 5mm - 3/4 inch bolt and the folder is fixed. You'd have to take it completely apart out of the receiver to remove it. So its not that bad. Most people buy a muzzle device anyways so its not that big of a deal to extend it legally. And as far as the finish, you have to refinish the receiver so might as well just do the whole gun. Something probably will get scratched during the build anyways. I'd be in if I had a little extra cash.

nagantnut,
to clarify about US parts, I am a little confused as to why you were saying the that the AMD65 needs 7 US parts. The front pistol grip is part of the lower handguard so that would already be covered on the list of parts. Here is a little breakdown of US parts, correct me if I am wrong (this list is for AKs in general). You may have no more than 10 imported parts on a rifle that accepts magazine that holds more than 10 rounds and has a pistol grip. A milled AK rifle has 14 countable parts. Stamped has 15. Add 1 part for a muzzle brake. US parts include: Buttstock 1 pistol grip 1 upper and lower handguards 1 muzzle brake 1 gas piston 1 hammer 1 trigger 1 disconnector 1 follower 1 floorplate 1 reciever 1 All parts must be marked US or made in such a fashion as to have never been imported, (stainless steel piston). A milled AK without a muzzle brake needs 4 US parts. W/ brake, 5. A stamped AK rifle without a muzzle brake needs 5 US parts. W/ brake 6. I realize that I could be missing something when it comes to AMD-65's, but why would it need seven US parts to be compliant? nagantnut, I'm not trying to flame you or cause problems - I am just trying to make sure that I understand, in case I'm missing something. Not sure if this should be part of a new thread or not, but hope it helps those that are wanting to build an AMD-65. The group buy price is a decent price, I had almost added one to my AMD63 order. Did you talk with Lois at centerfiresystems? I am thinking everyone could call Lois and get the group price, and centerfire would ship the kits. I'll look around and see if I can find the phone number. |

First of all, I was responding to a question NHBandit asked that no one else bothered to answer. He seemed interested in the group buy but had some questions. I addressed my original message to "Bandit-". I was trying to answer his question on the availability of US made semi-auto parts and what to do about the short barrel length. I guess some of you were offended by that.
I also offered my opinion on the AMD-65 build (which was not an entirely positive one) and for that I appologize to lost for any negative affect it may have had on his post. I did not intend to deter anyone from purchasing one of these kits I was only stating what I had learned from my own experiences with building this rifle. The deal from Centerfire is a good one. Justashooter- 1) True, you have to buy these parts for any AK kit, but you can use a US made stock set on most other kits which looks identical to the factory stock set and does not change the look of the rifle. You cannot replace the stock set on the the AMD-65 without altering the look of the rifle. Also, the only US made "stock set" available for the AMD-65 are pistol grips. The ATF considers the ENTIRE handguard assembly (including the gas tube cover) to be the front grip, not just the pistol grip. So replacing the forward PG would be purely asthetic and would NOT count towards the US parts count. 2) I was merely offering an opinion. You do not have to agree with it. 3) You are assuming that the assault weapon ban will be repealed even though our President has stated he will support the ban. If you have to pin it, why build a folder? 4) This is exactly the point I was trying to make. Why build a "compact folder" if you cannot fold the stock and the barrel is the same length as a standard AK? It will not be a "compact folder" anymore. Yes it still "looks cool", but so does the AMD-63 and the '63 is in much better condition. 5) Again, I was not talking to you. Glad you decided to put your .02 in anyways though. Sniper- My mistake, I was thinking of the FAL ( it requires 7 US parts w/MB). You are correct, it is 5 for the milled and 6 for the stamped. I will edit my previous post to avoid causing any confusion.

Just a few more people and we are there!!!!
I dont see compliance as a BIG issue? A follower,floorplate,H.T.S. gas piston, and a Muzzle break and Im there.( If my count is correct??? )Gosh. I guess that means Ill have to drop an extra 2.50 into 1/2 dozen mags.) Still comes up awful cheap on paper.Am I missing something real important somewhere? Thus far. I have listed 1 for P806 1 for The Armour 1 for Akkid 1 for gwolff 1 for NHBandit 1 for leper 2 for lost ( Because I'm greedy) and want to see this thing a go! Just to prevent any confusion. I am not making a dime for this group buy. I dont get any special personal concessions from the vender.Nothing! I am doing this solely for the satisfaction of doing it. We only need 10 to get this going. I actually anticipated having 10 people want in the first day! I cant believe a week out and I am still not up to enough people to place the order. I will give it another couple days and see what happens. Nagantnut , I assume from your posts that you have aready built one of these and dont like it? If this is correct please P.M. me! Thanks LOST |

I would like one or two but placed an order (will call) with Centerfire several weeks ago on the 63 and 65 package deal. If I can get out of that and switch to one or two 63's and a 65 and save money, I'm all for it. RIght now I will owe them $125 and $85. Should I call Lois? Can we get AMD-65's in this buy, too?

I just ordered an AMD63 kit from CF, $138.47 shipped. Is there any way to get one cheaper? Are they offering a discount on the 63's? I'm mailing in payment so there is time to change my order.

centerfire did have a group buy price of $110 (before shipping). Not sure if they are still selling them for that price, but you would need to call Lois at centerfire at 1-800-915-3346. She is who I had talked to when I originally heard of the amd 63 kits last month. Lois should be able to fill you in on whether the amd 63 is still available for the group buy price and what other group buys or specials that centerfire is honoring or doing. Hope this helps.
