Default 22 question

Why hasn't there been a centerfire 22 LR ?
My contender hammer strikes either rimfire or centerfire cartridges . It would be a blast to be able to reload 22 lr. Think of the possibilities. I don't care if it is economically feasible, but if it is physically possible.
I can't get this idea out of my head.

Yeah, but they are all in Spanish, or maybe it's just my irritated bowel acting up, either way it's annoying.

I have before me a 22 lr cartridge along with a small pistol primer and a dial vernier caliper.
22 case mikes out at .224. primer mikes out at .174. distance across the base including rim is.272.
There is .050 difference in diameters that makes it .025 of material on each wall.
Why can't a cartridge be made that allows a primer to be inserted?
Can it be done?

Festus, not to worry. Valmet is menstruating. As usual.

I have been wishing the same thing for years. The .22 hornet, .221 Fireball and .218 Bee is not what I have wished for. No, I want a damn twenty two long rifle case with a small pistol primer pocket in it.

Thank you.

My reasons are varied, but important to me. CB caps and Aguila Colibri's are fun, but not what I want. I want to cast .22 round balls and put them over a small pistol MAGNUM primer.

I have drilled squirrels squarely in the head any number of times with the Colibri and the Cb Caps. Squirrel will flop around, run off, then die. I do not like that. I want a little hotter, reloadable deal.

Sometimes I think too much.

This is brainstorming. It is worth nothing...

Turn a hornet case down to get a cartridge head of identical dimensions to a 22LR. Leave a step on the case head. Cut the rim off a regular 22 case on a case trimmer or lathe to a consistant length and press it on to the case head you made.

Probably would be a bit delicate and the labor, extreme. But when all you got is time, maybe it's worth it.

Why not do that with a 22 Hornet? Primer and a smidgen of powder and cast bullets.

Gives you an excuse to buy a beauty like this.
