Saw a rifle at a local that had the cleaning rod guide/bayo lug ground off, and a sleeve tacked over the threads. Had a hardwood thumbhole stock on it that I've only seen on the heavy barrel rifles. It is marked NHM90, the guy wants 600 to much for it. I've just never seen anything like this.

$600.00 is way too much. I just got a nice NHM-91 RPK version (with bipod) for $325. Keep looking, you'll find a better price. One significant advantage to either the NHM-90 or the NHM-91 is that the receiver steel is about 40% thicker than any of the European or Egytian AK's. The front trunion is also a lot beefier. NHM-91 has a true "heavy barrel" and is generally better accuracy than the standard - my opinion and experience.

the NHM 90 is also .223 IIRC....If he had a bunch of mags with it it would be worth the money...

I have an NHM-90 that was modified into a Type 56s (underfolder). It had the underfolder receiver as imported. It also had a threaded barrel which was turned smooth on the outside, not ringed or threaded like the MAK-90s. It also had a rivet that came through the receiver just behind the mag well, requiring the mag to have a slot milled in the locking tap. The magazine that came with it was 5 rnds, but the skirt of the follower were very long. With a standard follower, it holds 10 rnds. (This is where I got the idea to shorten the skirts on the 5 rnd mags to make them 10 rnd mags.)
I wouldn't pay more for an NHM-90 than a MAK-90. You will get a good FCG (Chinese are among the best FCGs made), but if you plan on modifying it with a PG, you'll probably have to replace it anyway. BTW, the NHM I have has a 16" barrel, is 7.62x39, and has a standard trunion. All of the stamped Chinese AKs receivers are heavier steel (1.5mm, about .060") than European AKs. They are also AK-47s with a stamped receiver, not AKMs.

there are 223 versions of the mak90 as well. Another interesting thing about the nhm90 is that the wood is US made (bishop or boyd). I have one nhm90 stock that I have been working on so that it is no longer a thumbhole. it will most likely be used on a future project.

Go to my web page and click on the link at the bottom for the Chinese rifles page. Scroll down to the NHM-90 info and check the NHM-91 info as the rivit next to the mag well is discussed there.
