My turk was imported by century arms. I bought it back in 2001? Back when they were a whopping $40 like the nagants.
Turk blue was about 60%, very very faded. Numbers were matching (although alot these days arent), stock was great and didnt take much to spiff up. Of course packed full of cosmo. I scrubbed out the barrel about 7 times, cleaned out the cosmo else where. First shot at 60 yards hit the target and its not failed since. It is absolutely dead accurate iron sights. My 48 hasnt been able to touch it (oc im sure the 28"? barrel helps). I had two problems with my turk initially and that was that the ejector spring was worn out, and that there was some buildup in the chamber to where the bolt didnt like to unlock easily. Quick 20 minute fixes for both. I scoped it and put on a nice stock, but in honesty i enjoyed its iron site precision and ww1-feel better; like a gew98 knockoff. My smith keeps one he cut down as kind of a k98 clone you could say, its scoped and with excellent marks. When buying a turk, keep this in mind. You cant easily throw on a typical 98 barrel, the threads are not the same. itll take the barrel of a Swede mauser 6.5. If you want to rebarrel one for another caliber youd have to get a complete blank and have your smith thread it. Because of that, Im weary of the $150 theyve been asking recently, id be more inclined to go for a yugo 24/47 or just a straight up 98 action from jg sales, but it depends oc on what you want to do with it. With that in mind, the turk as I understand it is an Intermediate action; however, the trigger guard screw set is long action size. So common mauser98 stocks fit it unlike the other intermediate mausers. This is a plus of course, because the majority of commercial-made mauser stocks will fit it. In all truth, the $230 I paid for my m48 was robbery compared to the $40 I paid for my turk; That turk is limited only by my poor eyesight. Considering what most mausers run these days, I suppose $150 is pretty good price. Avoid the turk 8mm ammo, it shoots hot and the shells split almost always in my turk. I hope that wasnt too much yap and answered alot of your Qs you might have. http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...icture6023.jpg (The wood stock + length + scope weight made it impossible to use accurately with scope; too heavy to keep still, even shooting benched it wouldnt hold a zero. With a synthetic stock? Dead on.) http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...cture7009a.jpg |
