Marketplace & Advertising Rules - Updated 07/30/2005

These changes will eliminate the now more or less unenforceable rules concerning commercial use of the marketplace. These new rules should not affect most members except those who are in fact vendors on this forum. The intent of these changes is to add priviledges for those who wish to become vendors / advertisers without restricting users who don't fall into either of these categories and also to make the rules easier to enforce.

This rules change has been long in coming and something I have debated for some time. I have decided that it is time to separate Contributor accounts and Vendor Accounts. The standard rules of the marketplace are not being changed, the 3 Threads per day rule still applies to all members and I am also going to start more heavily enforcing the No-Trolling rules.

All Members / Non-Dealers:

Post a Price. This is not an auction site so please post your asking price for the items you wish to sell.

No more than 3 new or BTT'd advertisements per day This applies to ALL members regardless of advertiser or contributor status and this is a combined total for all Marketplace sections. It is highly suggested that members combine their items for sale into a single thread rather than posting multiple threads for individual items. This rule applies to BTT'ing your ad with updates on what has sold. If an item has sold please edit your original post. Multiple BTT's in one day to 'bump' your add will not be allowed. Failure to follow this rule may result in one or all of your ads being removed.

No Trolling. If someone posts something for sale and you think the price is too high, then don't buy it or make a counter offer. No flaming in the marketplace. If you have a problem or issue with someone over an item you have purchased from the seller, you need to either post it in reviews (as a review) and/or leave the user feedback if dealing with a marketplace transaction (go to the users profile). Limit all comments to interest in purchasing the item offered or answering an inquiry from a member who has offered to buy. Trolling will not be tollerated.

No Advertising in Signatures (Includes company name, logos, or contact information including manually adding company links, urls or information in posts).

No links to Commercial websites (includes linking products within marketplace to your commercial website and adding your commercial website link as your homepage in your profile).

No Company Logo's or Advertising in user Avatars or Custom User Titles (Regardless of contributor status).

No company names, urls, or similar 'branding' in usernames

No "Group Buys" on The AK Files without Admin Approval. Group Buys will not be posted without the prior permission of an AK Files admin. We would like to avoid abuses of our vendor rules and also protect our members from individuals that may post a group buy only to try to rip off our members.

Dealers:

$315 / year ($35 / month paid quarterly)
Ability to post your companies products or services for sale on the forums
Bolded Username in Marketplace Ads
Company contact information allowed in signature
Company Logo allowed in Avatar
Company Name allowed in board username (One user account allowed)
Linking to products on vendor website allowed
Custom User Title & Listing as Vendor
Company Information listed on Vendors List

Advertising Dealers:

$50 / month (Discounts for semi and annual accounts)
Ability to post your companies products or services for sale on the forums
Banner in banner rotation
Highlighted posts in Marketplace Ads
Company contact information allowed in signature
Company Logo allowed in Avatar
Company Name allowed in board username (One company rep per banner)
Linking to products on vendor website allowed
Custom User Title & Listing as Vendor
Company Information listed on Vendors List
** Vendor Forums are an addition $10 / month per year with the exception of Site Sponsors who receive one Forum.

Who is a Dealer (Vendor)? A Dealer is any party engaged in the selling of multiple products or products in numbers and/or services in an attempt to create tangable commercial gain, even if the party shows a net loss from their sales. This includes anyone manufacturing or buying product to resell for profit, anyone selling commercial services and anyone selling products for a third party (sales reps - salaried, commissioned or otherwise).

If I'm a Dealer (Vendor) so how do these Marketplace rules affect me? If you are a Dealer (Vendor) then you will need to sign up for a dealer membership in order to sell your products. Dealers who do not do this may have their posts locked or removed and their accounts may be frozen.

Member Contributions:

To become a Contributor on The AK Files you will need to make arrangements through The FAL Files website for the time being.

Please add a note or comment with your contribution mentioning that you are an AK Files Member, your ID #, and mention that it is for The AK Files and use your AK FILES AHAHOLIC# or if your the winning bidder on Mandy's auction here use his AKAholic # etc....

There are Memberships available at many different levels and each includes designation as a Contributor on the Forums with the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels adding an Avatar image under your forum user name.

Contributor ($5 - $49 / Year) Contributor designation under your user name.

Bronze Contributor ($50 - $99 / Year) Bronze Contributor designation and Choice of 50x50 pixel picture under your user name.

Silver Contributor ($100 - $199 / Year) Silver Contributor designation and Choice of 75x75 pixel picture under your user name.

Gold Contributor ($200 - $499 / Year) Gold Contributor designation and Choice of 100x100 pixel picture under your user name.

Platinum Contributor ($500 or More / Year) Platinum Contributor designation and Choice of 100x100 pixel picture under your user name.

In the future contributor status may also give discounts on products and access to other members only specials.

Picture sizes for avatars are listed as maximum width and height of the image.

Contributions made previously will count towards membership status. Membership IS NOT required to access the site or post to the boards. The memberships are a way of giving something back to those who have contributed for their continued support of this site.

Posting a claim to Buy an Item listed in The AK Files Marketplace:

"I'll take it!"...followed by timely electronic communication with the seller is what we suggest to make a legitimate claim.

Any conditions before, during, or after the posting of an "I'll take it!" , such as but not limited to "pending photos", or "if the dog does not bite the postman", or "if my wife will give me some money", will negate your claim to the item and render your claim invalid,....period.

The date and time of your claim is included at the top of your post and should be respected by the seller.

BUYERS NOTICE: Some vendors and members post their items on many different boards. While this is understood as desireable for the seller to receive maximum exposure, it may cause difficulty when the item is sold elsewhere.

SELLERS NOTICE: Please update your Sale Thread to reflect any change in status. This will help to keep our members up to date on your items.

Can we add a rule to stop people from deleting prices/ads? I like to troll the old ads and keep up with what items have sold for to help estimate values and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Good question.

We allow ads and prices to be deleted by the seller, at the sellers discretion. This allows complete privacy between buyer and seller, as the sale is a transaction between the those two parties only.

Though many members may hope to have records of past transactions as a convenient pricing guide to assist in selling/buying decisions, we feel it is a negative factor if the buyer wishes to sell his acquired item at a later date for a different (higher or lower) price.

Example,..

1) Party "A" sells an item to party "B".

2) Later party "B" offers that same item for sale for more money than he previously paid party "A".

3) Now comes new buyer party "C" who is interested in the item offered by "B", so party "C" searches the board for comparative prices and sees the old transaction between parties "A" and "B".

4) Now "C" who contacts "B" and says,....."Hey "B",...WTF?".
