Default SKS D w/ short 16" barrel for $600...

If this is decent,

I'll jump. But what says the court of my peers?

Sounds unusual Panzer. My limited experience is the SKS M has the short barrel and is post ban and the SKS D is pre ban and has the standard barrel length with downfolding spike bayonet.
Does this example have the downfolding bayonet?

No Brazos,

Ugly sporter stock with thumb hole grip and some blk colored tape on front of grip, not an "M" w/ normal stock. Seller called it this. My dad had an "M", I know those...

Sounds like a regular Sporter model. Look like this?
Here where I live $600 would tops be for a Sporter in like new condition.

Panzer, I had one of these, I called it my "Planet of the Apes" rifle, because it looks like the cheap prop guns from the old movie.

It was fun for awhile, but ended up selling it, because it was neither as fun to shoot or functional as either a regular SKS, or an AK.

If it's an itch you want to scratch, $500-600 is about the going price, private party.

I've got both SKS D and SKS M's I've purchased NIB for $200.00 and change back in the day.
The D model I bought at a Will Roger's show in 1987 and it's been to hell and back shows "SKS 7.62x39MM CSI DAL TX USA" below "MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO D"
The SKS M that came with the Monte Carlo stock shows "SKS M 7.62x39MM CBA, VA BH VA" above "MADE IN CHINA BY NORINCO" and has the year 94 prefix before the serial number.
Had one with the butthole stock I picked up and gifted to a family member and all of them shoot great and are mechanically identical with the exception of the longer barrel length and spike bayonet but magazine insertion is never as positive as with a Kalashnikov.

The butthole stocks the M had look like they were made by kindergartners but my experience has been they are mechanically identical to the other detachable magazine varieties.

PASS. Hugely. EDIT: maybe

The D is full length barrelvariant modified for AK magazines with an style AK mag release. If it's an actual D-- than it was Bubbafied to 16".

It should also have a full length REMOVEABLE spike bayonet -- no screws involved.

If it's still got the original removeable bayo, then it too has been modified.

EDIT: If its got the AK mag well and AK style mag release, it's could be worth 450-500. Just keep in mind that if it's a real "SKS D", then the barrel is a BUBBA mod.

Could be that the seller is mistaken about the model designation.

Ms DO NOT have thumbhole stocks, unless it is a bubba rescue.
NOTHING is an M unless it is specifically stamped SKS M. Ms ALWAYS came in Monte Carlo stocks.

The M's are most popular with the Sporters being least popular and the last several M's I seen sell locally fetched mid $500's, so $600 is not a stretch.

.
Actually, there are several AK mag variants of the SKS... the NR, the 63, the MC5D, the Sporter, the M, the 93, the KS-30, the Midwest Ordinance, and the SKS-30, to name a few.

Stoned oli--

Even IF its a bubba cut barrel, the AK mag modifications keep this in the"paratroop" price range? Possibly higher IF it has a bubba-cut removable bayo?

The AK mag mods--even on a bubba-- would seem to be desirable regardless of garage-mods.

OP: can you post pics--even if you don't end up purchasing the gun?

It appears to be stock,

No bubba work. I've seen them before, just not sure of the model designation and I don't think seller is either.. Let me work on pics since it's being sold on Texas gun trader.

600 appears to be the going price. Maybe at the high ended, but there are more no more, right? I'm very interested but 600 seemed little high..

Thanks guys, all the info and input is good.... Wow DG, old memories there on planet of the apes, LOL!

There's a Sporter listed on Texas Gun Trader. It's priced at $600. Same one?

Ahhhhh Siney,

I let you down! This was a last minute thing! What say you Texas/DFW goons to a link up at Lakewood Brewery near Miller and Jupiter on Sat!? I changed the subject but then as a German, beer is Mother's milk...!

It's like an AK shoot but almost better! And I wouldn't be cheating on my CENTAK team!

My travel gun is an NPAP, that's all I got(and the G19)...

That's a Norinco Sporter. I have one that I showed above in a post. I think $600 may be a little high for it but if you want it grab it. There are only so many in the country and the price on them will only go up. I'd like to see it in the $475-525 range but if its matching and clean and you want it then what's another $50-75. People don't like thumb hole stocks and I think they look hideous sometimes but to me they are very comfortable. I'm tall with long arms and the length of thumb hole stocks fits well with my frame.

Yes,

Ugly they are, but I'm a big proponent of Murphy's laws of war:

Looks stupid but works, not stupid..... I will mull this over.. Is it worth the extra 50-75?

Anyone up for beers on Sat in Garland!? Sineypem, bullseye? Bueller?

I have the sporter as well. Its not that bad. The worst part is trying to insert mags. U have to really find the sweet spot to get mags to lock. I actually like them alot, and its very dependable

WILCO!

Thanks guys! Seller just emailed me. He said it's been shot 100 times, excellent condition. I saw a 30 rd chicom mag, 10 rd chicom mag with it. He actually had it for 425 and I was worried about the "competition", like sineypem(LOL). Said I'd give him 450 if it would help the deal out some for myself. I think it was worth it seeing yall's texts.

Keep fingers crossed though, these things can go "flakey" quick, standing by for his text..
