"full auto" bolt carrier?

Is there any difference between a "full auto" and semi bolt carrier?

a full auto bolt carrier has a tab on the right rear of it that trips the sear. a semi one has that milled off.

Either one can be legally used in any semi-auto rifle. 99.9999% of parts kits are from former select-fire rifles, so you will get the full-auto carrier. There is no need to replace it with a different one. It's an unnecessary added expense. I have not seen a U.S. made carrier available, so why bother?

The recent Saigas use a notch on the bolt carrier to interact
with a plate in the receiver to hold the bolt open. It's manual,
not automatic, but it's a help.

I'm not concerned about replacing the bolt carrier, I am having problems with the trigger group. The secondary sear is not catching the hammer when the carrier is pulled back. At first I thought the carrier might be tripping the secondary sear somehow allowing the hammer to release. I discovered the problem is that the hammer is not being pushed down far enough to engage the secondary sear when the carrier is pulled back. I think I am going to try adding some material to the face of the hammer with my welder and then filing it to shape. If enough material is added it should allow the carrier to push the hammer down far enough to engage the secondary sear. It looks like I need to add about an eighth of an inch or so.
