Default Any interest in modified drop in ready Zhukov handguards for the VEPR?

Seems like modifying the Zhukov for VEPRs at home is a shit show.

Is anyone interested in a nicely aftermarket modified Zhukov/U that is a drop in? This would include:

-Newly fabricated aluminum or steel clamps that fit the thicker barrel along with new hardware
-Possibly new holes drilled in the heat-shield if the screw holes on the clamps need to be widened or even elongate the original holes
-Heat shield relieved to clear the RSB. This would be done on a milling machine

If interested, what would you pay?

You misread my question. I'm offering to do all the work including making new parts so the fitment is better and sell the modified units.

Just curious how many people are interested and what they think this should cost.

Ah I see what you did there. Removed material from the bolt where it would contact the barrel. Smart!

I'm thinking a shoulder bolt with a section turned down would be optimal along with custom clamps with the correct ID.

Did you have to remove any material from the polymer handguard?

Not sure what makes it a shit show. I did all of mine with a dremel and 4 inch grinder.......very carefully.

The hand-guards are stock and the rear lip trimmed.

I would buy one for my Vepr FM, but not sure how much it should cost.

I would possibly be interested in newly fabricated aluminum or steel clamps.

Not sure if there is much of a market for you considering Vepr imports ended.

Thanks everyone for the interest. I just finished doing the prototype at the machine shop today. Came out great. Didn't fabricate new clamps. Just opened up the originals. Also ended up going with new longer 1.25" fasterners(0.25" longer than stock). Didn't remove any material from the polymer at all but I'll check tomorrow if removing material would help anything.

I would say the cost of labor would be $60 per unit to make it worth everyones time. New fasteners included. Of course you'd still be responsible on your end for cutting off the original retainer.

Upgraded torx SS black oxide fasteners would be additional $10 per unit.

Custom machined shoulder bolts and custom machined SS clamps would cost quite a bit more. Not sure I'd want to go down that road and have a bunch made only to not be able to sell them.

Just food for thought. I'll try to post some photos or video tomorrow.

Default Both lengths of Zhukov forearm?

There is a mid length and the full length.

Will you make for both lengths?

Thanks
MJ

The process is the same for both but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep inventory of completed units on my end. With all the colors Magpul makes it would be a considerable investment to have stock ready to ship vs having people send in their own units.

I'm still not sure yet. However, I'll post a video about the process so if I end up not doing it at least the process will be documented.

I got V1 done. I think I can do better so there will be a V2. Sorry no detailed photos of the milling work. It's basically the same as the pictures posted at the top of this thread. The only additional thing I did was re-profile the clamps to 13/16" (0.8125") so they are snug on the barrel. It could be closer if I had access to a metric end mill in 20mm so V2 should be cut with one of those.

I would probably be interested in one. How soon might they be available?

Is that a Midwest Industries rail?

No ETA at the moment. Once I get V2 done I'll probably sell the V1 and depending on some other factors I'll start taking orders.

Yes, that's the gen2 MI AK optic mount.

Not trying to divert your thread too much, but is that the MI-AKSMG2-A Gen 2 Side Mount ACOG with the Primary Arms 5X Prism Scope with Patented .223/5.56, 5.45x39, .308 ACSS Reticle?

I'm in the market for something like that too if not the exact thing. Nice setup.

Yep the mount is the MI-AKSMG2-A Gen 2. The scope is the Primary Arms 3x 7.62x39 version with the removable riser. Naturally the riser is removed to get the optic lower to the bore but you can see I still needed a bit of extra cheek rise to get a solid cheek weld.

Here are some quick snaps of V1 installed on my Vepr FM to show the clamp re-profile and partial machining of the rear ears.
