Default old H&R shotgun

Picked up a topper model 48 12 gauge at the local pawn shop on an impulse today. The old single shot looked like the one my my grandfather had that I shot as a seven year old and the recoil gave me a black eye. The gun was priced at 69 bucks and when I examined it I found the lug holding the forearm on the barrel was repaired with brazing and it was cracked and bent. This sealed the deal as it was broken and in need of a home, so I adopted it. They knocked the price down to 45 bucks because it was broken. Got out the oxyacetylene torch and hammer and dremmel and had it working again in about a half hour. This relic was supposed to be made prior to 1954, but there is no serial number anywhere or a date code either. The trigger guard is plastic though, so it can't be pre war. I also had the instant background check done for the first time in my life. These H&R guns are not collectible, but I always liked them.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

I LOVE bringing them back from the dead!!!!

I do the same with Military Bolt Action Rifles...I'm a REAL sucker for a mil-surp bolt action...that everybody passed over.

Even if I gotta put more in them then they're "worth"...I don't care.

To me they're almost priceless.

I just checked out the chamber length and it looks like 3.5 inch ? The barrel is marked 12 gauge choke proof tested and 30 1nches. It is light as a feather. If I use the mini buckshot rounds it may be the ticket for taking deer in suburbia.
