Dragging body of dead hooker to railroad tracks... Best description of that trigger ever said

So basically all their metal is fine, hardness is good, and parts are good. Just crappy finish, sloppy aligning, crappy triggers, and occasional ugly rivets.

$1000 though... Glad I bought my DDI.
Edit: And I'm glad my DDI has been super straight so far.

So, aside from the paint and lack luster attention to assembly, seems pretty routine thing far.

Now I need to go shoot my XM 55 prefix rifle.

This may have been answered in the other thread but... Rob have you reached out to Arsenal/K-Var at all?

Hope the metallurgy holds up. But that όber cheap paint, just wow...

Maybe it's a special model for customers who media blast and camo their rifles with Dura Coat or somethin...

Good stuff, thanks Rob. The Hammer Cocking Cam looks good. I like the Arsenal fire control group. It's better than tapco in my book. I bet the paint issue is because Arsenal was in a hurry to get the latest batch out. They probably skipped the park tank and shot the squid ink (paint) on without cleaning or degreasing the rifle. Look forward to then next video. Thanks again.

Looks like they did skip the park tank. The rivet probably took a hit and gouged that mark into it.

I've kind of always thought the Arsenal hype was overrated.
Don't get me wrong, they're great guns for the most part but just not what they're going for now.

Poor prep prior to painting (PPPP). Definitely missed the park tank or the park solution was spent. Was the rust under the paint or did it rust after the paint came off? Your location looks "moist".
Something dinged that rivet after it was set.

Why is everyone smiling at thought of dragging body of dead hooker ? You sick bastards ! Lol.

Yea, the rachet and clank when you pull charging handle, is pretty brutal on Arsenal's, with those hammers. And some have that creepy trigger pull. G2 with a reprofile/polish and axis pin retainer plate are about the best $35-$40 you can spend. It can make pulling the charging handle like butter, and nice single stage trigger pull.

Rust and paint bubbling dont bother me. Its a rifle not a beauty queen. As long as it shoots it doesn't bother me.

Thanks for an honest review. Some of your followers need a vacation before they lose their mind or something.

I cannot find the same flaws in my two SLR rifles XM 55 12xx and XM 55 15xx. Maybe someone was on vacation when they made your rifle

With that idea why are we buying $1200 arsenals and not $600 WASRs instead?

Great review as always Rob!

I can't say anything you found, or didn't find, is a surprise though. I expect she'll take a beating and keep on eating well past 5000 rounds.

WE aren't. Most of my SLRs were purchased between $800 - $900. A few of the less common ones were in the $1000 - $1100 range.

Because the features on a SLR can not be easily added to an AK.

Unfortunate that your barrel and gas block have paint issues. I can't say that's been my experience with Arsenals over the years. Looking forward to the rest of the test. I have owned 2 Arsenals that have gone well over 5k rounds without issue, I expect the same with your rifle.

Wasr is about 650 online. Add a folding stock plus muzzle break. What are you at now? Probably more than an arsenal costs. Love my wasrs but my 10/63 had the most canted fsb and sloppy bolt carrier.

Its all about features. Not too long ago you could get an arsenal for 900 shipped from sportsmans guide and the wasr was considered to be the biggest pile of shit. Its all perspective man.

So the SLR is a good rifle, just not a $1,000 rifle, essentially?

Can some of you guys stop spreading bullshit about SLR-107 being a $1200 rifle? They are $900-1000. It's obvious that those of you don't even think before posting.

The extra costs come from the folding stock, polymer furniture, muzzle brake and the fact that the parts fitment on an Arsenal are a lot better than other AK rifles like the WASR for example. If the bubbling paint is limited to a batch of rifles that missed the parkerization treatment then I can understand that, its not an excuse, but it is an understandable oversight. Arsenal, however, should have stepped up and addressed it rather than ignoring it. Shame on them as this is a $1,000 rifle. Kudos to the forum for looking into the problem more than Arsenal did.

Thanks Rob! Love the videos's, keep it up.

Address what? How many rifles had the same issue? Did anyone even try to return them for repair?

The 5,000 series shows the importance of Rob purchasing the rifles retail and not allowing manufacturers and middle men to game the review with handpicked sample rifles. As such, please consider donating to AKOU or buying something from their store.
