Default Zero cost, Zero mod bolt hold open technique

Many thanks to the person who originally informed me of this. I was told to hold the trigger down and pull the bolt back manually, and you're able to have the bolt catch and stay held open.

I was wondering if any of you knew which part of the FCG was actually catching on the bolt when this happens, if it does any harm, and if the rifle is actually designed to do this?

It sure is nice being able to leave my bolt open so that my rifle can cool down quicker. And it seems to hold it pretty well. I have to pull the bolt back again before it will release.

And is a good way to damage the hammer in your rifle, what ya are doing is wedgeing the rear edge of the hammer (where your disconecter catches it) against a cut in the bottom of the bolt carrier, if this area becomes worn or chipped then your diconecter can no longer grab the hammer correctly and ya will have issues with the hammer folowing the bolt with a loaded round in the chamber. everytime ya pull the trigger to use the hammer to lock up the bolt ya are chipping away at the rear edge of your hammer..

The next problem comes from the recoil spring at near full compression is wedging down at an angle on the hammer axis pin........ which it was never designed to have happening the axis pin is a rotational axis not a door stop.

Next as some folks have found the hard way if the hammer gets wedged the only way to get your rifle back into operation is to try to reach up through the magwell with a thin screwdriver and attempt to manually recock the hammer enough to free the bolt until ya succeed in this ya have a totally locked up rifle........... very totally locked up

This is a VERY bad practice and why while folks have known it can be done for years ya don't see the technique stickied on any AK site as an "oh gee what a cool feature" post etc.... its also a huge safty concern as if a loaded mag is placed in the rifle it can inadvertantly be released chambering a round and the hammer will follow the bolt forward as ya have dissabled the triggers function already....

I would not be to fast to be thanking someone for tellin ya how to destroy your rifle or possibly kill yourself or someone else

or ya just spend a couple minutes to cut your own, they are standard with Virgin M92 parts kits etc... the M-92 krink real Yugo one can be fitted to and 1 mm recievered AK or ya open it up very slightly to use on a M70 Yugo to account for the extra .5 mm reciever thickness. They run around $20 from Centerfire etc... or ya can simply cut your existing selector lever...

why even go and pay for one? it's nothing more then a notch cut out of a selector lever, you can do that on the one that is on your rifle faster then you can call to order one, and the best thing of all it cost a whopping 0 dollars to make one.
