Man injured in bloody attack in Tampines

SINGAPORE: A man has been badly injured in a fight at Block 162 of Tampines Street 12.

A Channel NewsAsia viewer said a parang might have been used in the attack.

Police said they received a call about the incident around 6.30pm.

But when they arrived at the scene, all they found were bloodstains.

The man, known as Fan, had already been sent to Changi General Hospital.

Police believe he suffered injuries to his head, arms and back.

Police are investigating the case.

Rusmah Ramle, Fan's mother, said: "From my unit upstairs, I saw three people running with parangs."

Muhammad Afandi, eye-witness and Fan's friend, said: "I saw Fan being chased by three other guys holding parangs. But my view was blocked by the bushes. Then there was a sudden silence and people started to gather around Fan. I went over and saw that he was badly injured."

Parang - a type of machete used in Indonesia and Malaysia

The parang is the Malay equivalent of the machete, typical vegetation in Malaysia is more woody than in South America and the parang is therefore optimised for a stronger chopping action with a heavier blade and a "sweet spot" further forward of the handle, the blade is also beveled more obtusely to prevent it from binding in the cut. This is the same rationale and (in practical terms) the same design as the Indonesian golok and very similar to the Filipino bolo. A parang blade is usually 30cm (12in) long and weighs no more than 750g (1.5lb). The curved blade enabels maximum effort to be applied when cutting timber, and the blade arrives before the knuckles, so giving them protection. A parang has three different edges, the front is very sharp and used for skining, the middle is wider and used for chopping, and the back is very fine and used for carving. It is one of the best survival tools ever created.

For a second there i thought this said a man was attacked by a bloody tampon...

I guess being attacked by a machete would be bad too....
