Default U.S. made SVD

Check this out guys,

https://m.facebook.com/militaryarms/...type=3&theater

It looks like military arms chanel is hinting a U.S. made rifle is in the works. Damn though they say in .308. Would you buy one? I sure would if in 54r and a cheaper price.

They're talking it is .308, I'd rather have 7.62x54r, but I'm not bitching, somebody has at LEAST started making a US clone and that pleases me

Here is the US made receiver

I'd buy one. If the price is right, less than 2k street price, would be awesome.

Uhoh..Looks like MARS Arsenal has some competition!

And yes for $2500 I'll buy two. .308 is fine.

That's the attitude we need! If this keeps going they could come down in price and make more calibers (.30-06 and 7.62x53r anyone?),

it could possibly undercut the costs of TIGRs, NDM's and SVD's on the market however, but they are collectors so there's that

If it takes standard furniture and accessories then I can be convinced to splurge. We need more U.S.-made everything AK related.

Me too! I would be willing to throw some money, thats if the price is right but would be really more inclined to throw money at the 54r.

They need to make some quality reproduction 10 rounds 54R mags for a 54R SVD!

I own a Tigr, I'd be happy to see prices come down if that means more Dragunovs around.

I would rather have a 54r and have it be able to use SVD mags. If its 2k+ it better come with a scope and mount.

I'd be very interested in a 54r version - .308, not so much. Awesome that this might happen, but personally if I wanted a $2500 semi-auto .308 I'd buy a SCAR 17.

They are justifying the price as R&D expenses, but if it was in 54r, there would be no R&D.

I'd be Ok with a 308 version. I've got plenty of brass and a /308 bore offer me lots of options for hand loading. I know the 54r is the classic but soon enough the surplus ammo 'll dry up and the cheap stuff doesn't belong in something as good as a SVD( not at the price we'll be paying for one anyway).

Even to copy a rifle there is still R&D to be done. Not to mention all the tooling that needs to be made to hold the parts for manufacture. Even if they got the complete technical package the rifles would be hard to get into production just due to all the parts needed for the SVD.

Make it take FAL mags. Cheap and plentiful.
308 is good, but it would compete with the SCAR17.

I had the hots for NDM86 but was a little put off after reading about the Las Vegas rental range that found them to be lacking in durability. I cant find the post on AR15, but theirs were breaking down in under 15k rounds, while AKs were chugging along until 80-100k.

They mentioned their SCAR was quite durable.

I'd be interested in a 308 version...but really they should come in both flavors (308 & 54r). I would also need to vet the quality prior.....US made AK's don't exactly always have the best reputation. If csspecs would make the mags......

I understand a lot of people are saying "well it can't compete with .308 AR's and other more accurate rifles", I don't think that's the point, this is something people have wanted as a collector item for a LONG time

I saw a Chinese 308 one break. It might have been an oversize reload or a soft primer, but it broke the receiver. Poland changed the barrels on their Soviet-made ones to heavier barrels in 54R. After joining NATO they tried to convert them to 7.62N and found the conversion couldn't be done safely. I would think the parts involved in safety would be the barrel and the bolt they would have to replace. I'm sure they did proof testing, but they have have also done plugged barrel testing. I know China and Russia make 308 versions but what would give on a converted one? The bolt? The receiver? Is it the straighter walls or the higher pressure of the cartridge that cause potential problems?

I'm perfectly happy with my 23 inch 308 VEPR with Ironwood SVD set....it gets me as close as I think I want to be to the real thing without having to fork over the cash for a true Russian SVD....

for the proposed cost of one of these, you could score a VEPR in both 308 AND 54r and dress em in Ironwood SVD sets...the difference in operation system is not worth THAT much to me....

SVD mags fluctuate between $70 and $100 for 54r ... NDM 308 mags ... you don't want to know ... if you have to ask, you can't afford it

"I'd buy one as long as everything it 100% spec."

I am guessing what you are seeing here is reverse engineered to "best guess" specifications without any original blueprints or specifications. I doubt they are "spec" as you ask to the original factory prints.
Hopefully they forge the receiver then I might be in if they will sell just a few receivers in 7.62x54r, I have enough parts kits to build a few guns. I just need a few receivers myself.
