Hi,
Long time lurker has a question here. I've got an AMD 65 kit I am thinking of selling but I have a problem with it. I bought this kit years ago and the person I got it from did a bad job with the demill. He drilled into the barrel a small amount. Also he cracked the lower hole on the front trunion. That isn't such a big deal since I have a replacement trunion for the kit. I just don't want to sell a kit to someone that might potentially be dangerous. If it were me, I would build on it but I know from my reading everyone has a slightly different opinion on how far is to far when you drill into the barrel. I'm trying to get a general opinion from the masters here on if this is usable. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Dole http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...6/DSC01991.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...6/DSC01990.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...6/DSC01989.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...6/DSC01988.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...6/DSC01987.jpg |

That shoulld be safe to build up, no problem. But if you decide to sell it, let me know how much you want.

maybe do a tig weld on the crack..., heard it'll be stronger then before! those holes don't look deep enough to abe a prob-but i can't tell on of them. how deep is the worst one? from what i see it looks buildable, but i'm not positive.

Thanks for the input Bushman. I'm trying to figure a value on it. All of the numbers are matching except for the barrel. I thought it was odd that the barrel seems to be the one that was pressed from the kit but it has a different number. Also it is missing the folding stock and rear trunion. I guess it doesn't matter much since it would be great for a pistol build.

Thanks JWC but I don't have any access to welding equipment. I figured a new trunion would be a better option but if someone has the tools and skill, why not go for it. As for the worst hole, I don't have anything handy to measure by so I did the totally low rent thing of using the cleaning rod to check depth. Basically the rod sits in the hole up to the first thread. So my noobish estimate would put it at slightly under 1/8th. Does this even make sense?

Makes perfect sense, and I see no problem with building it. The trunnion is going to hold the breech solidly in place anyway. I doubt you'd have a problem with the small crack in the tunnion either - have it welded inside if you feel unsure about it. Good luck!

You have just had several experienced builders bless your kit. Go ahead and sell it to a hobbyist in good conscience.

I'm not an "experienced builder" but I have a buddy who owns a machine shop and I would love to buy that kit so that I could weld up the trunnion and maybe even had a tad of weld to the barrel and then use a lathe to mill it back down smooth and build it up.
I would love to buy an AMD 65 kit. |

I will absolve you of all liability by providing a notarized statement to that fact if I were to purchase those parts from you. However ,the cost to you for my efforts will be deducted from the sale price. In other words, sell it cheap and strictly as is, where is , and no refunds. Your concern and honesty are commendable.
If I get a landowner to allow me to hunt on their property, I always ask if they would like me to sign a liability waiver so I can't sue them if I get hurt. |

Thanks for all the answers guys. It looks like the consensus is the kit is fine. Knowing that, I will be able to sell it without worrying about a potential explosion. I'll be getting some pics of the whole kit here soon and putting it on the market board. So keep your eyes open.
