Hi all, i have a couple of mag pouches for the AK-74 mags that came with my parts kits, the ones that hold 4 mags (i must say i like them) My question is, there is a smaller pouch on the side of the mag pouch, it seems to be for the oil bottle maybe? Whats it for? And any idea why one of the mag pockets has a strap to close it seperately from the others? I think the pouch is bulgarian, the kits were anyways, Thanks, Azure

the three spots on the inside without the strap are for mags, the one with the strap is for stripper clips. The little pouch is for an oiler and cleaning kit, and the little slot within that is for your charger device for the strippers.

Cool. That would jive with what Redbear is saying about what he carried in the Russian Army back in the '80's for ammo.

Exactly as Max-Guy stated, if you look at the other thread you will see that most soldiers carried 181 rounds in what I would call their "combat" load. Granted this is what the "manual" states, similarly when soldiers go into combat they tend to get whatever they can, even Russian ones.
On a seperate note, Max-Guy, you a combat engineer? My favorite joke from my grandfather was peoples assertation that engineers built bridges. He said he saw alot of bridges in europe, blew alot of bridges in europe, never built one. 297th Combat Engineers, C Company 2nd Bat, 4th Inf. -myers |

Yes. A 12B (now called 21B) combat engineer. Back in the late 80's and early 90's we operated 5-ton dumps and our main mission was route and road reconnaisence. After Desert Storm, we reorganized to Mech and our main job was breaching minefields. One of the companies in my battalion was to put in minefields, on a rotating basis.
I missed out on my chance for combat in Iraq only because the Turks didn't allow us to invade from their territory. I'm still not sure if I should thank them or not. (LOL). Instead, I got sent to Ft Hood, Texas to take care of the place while 4th ID was deployed. Now, it's my job to train and evaluate Reserve and National Guard Soldiers before they rotate overseas to the sandbox. I can retire in July, but I don't think I will. (I'm only 41 after all...) -- GLA
