Default SAM7K w/ Stormwerkz Folding Mech, KAK Tube, Shockwave Brace installation guide

Update: 09/11/2017 - Re-Uploaded photos using imgur.com.

I know that some members here talked about installing a Stormwerkz or ACE folding mech on a SAM7K with an Shockwave Brace but was hesitant because it would not clear the side rail mount when folded and that they don't want to mess with the rear trunnion block. It was a grey area for some.

Well, after researching and looking at photo's on-line with AK's that has an ACE or Stormwerkz folding mech installed. I see that there would be no problem installing one on a SAM7K with an Shockwave Brace.

Installing the Stormwerkz Folding Mech was pretty easy to do just as long as you get your measurements right when drilling the 2 holes for the mounting bolts

At first, my plan was just to tap the 2 holes using a #21 bit and 10-32 tap then just use the 2 bolts that came with the Stormwerkz folding mech. But, I end up breaking 2 taps. After breaking the second tap, I said "FUCK IT," I'll just use a locking nut and tension washer.

So I went to the local ACE Hardware in town and bought 2ea of the 10-32 locking nut and lock washer. I had to grind off some metal (just a little) on both locking nuts to clear the rear tunnion side walls. You'll see it in the photo's below.

This is what I installed on my SAM7K:

1. Stormwerkz Stock Folding Mechanism- AR-15 Profile : http://stormwerkz.com/stock-folding-...anism-ar-type/

2. KAK Industry Shockwave Tube: https://www.kakindustry.com/shockwave/shockwave-tube

3. Shockwave Blade: http://www.kakindustry.com/shockwave/shockwave-black[/url]

4 . Ambidextrous Sling Plate mount Push Button QD Sling Swivel (BLACK) eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/223-Ambidext...item3ce1d48006

OVERALL, I am very happy with results.

If you plan to use a tap, this is the correct size for the 2 bolts that was provided with the Stormwerkz Folding Mech.

I tried to save the sling swivel mount. But, after trying for about 15mins, it's not going to happen. So, I ended up using a dremel to remove the damn thing.

Making sure that the receiver is leveled so you can take accurate measurements.

Use a center punch to mark the spot before drilling. This will also prevent your drill bit from wondering.

Start off by using a smaller drill bit.

Once you've got the two holes drilled. You can now start using a 10-32 tap to start tapping (If you were to go that route). Since I had broken 2 taps, I've decided to drill both holes bigger just enough for the bolts to slide in through the holes.

The bolts fits in perfectly and the Strormwerkz folding mech aligns evenly with the right side of the receiver.

After breaking 2 taps, I've decided to go with the 10-32 lock nuts and tension washer. I got 10-32 lock nuts and tension washier at the local ACE Hardware.

Time to install the Stormwerkz folding mech with the locking nuts and the tension washer. The locking nuts are inside the receiver and the tension washer are at the bolt heads.

Before completely tightening the bolts, you want to make sure that the left and right side of the Stormwerkz folding mech is even.

Once everything lines up evenly, start tightening the bolts until the Stormwerkz folding mech is completely fastend.

PERFECTLY EVEN!

Now we can install the KAK Industry KAK Tube and Shockwave Brace

Done!

Even with the Stormwerkz folding mech fully folded with the Shockwave and the AR15 Ambidextrous Sling Push Button QD Sling Swivel Back Plate installed, it still folds and locks in place with NO PROBLEMS.

Very nice...that is exactly what I'm going to do with my PAP M85NP. I'm just waiting on my pistol to arrive and Stormwerkz adapter.

Curious as to why you went with the lock nuts? When I did mine, I just loc-tited (red) the screws and it is tight as heck.

After breaking 2 taps. I just decided to go with the lock nuts. It's still pretty solid.

Gotcha. Mine threaded easily without problem however I did what you did on my Yugo M85.

Nice job island I may still do this, would just need to push the pin out of my ak version and buy everything else you did. That looks very clean. And hopefully they make a "triangle" arm brace soon, for those that want some ventilation because all that rubber doesn't breathe to well strapped to your arm.

Looks awesome! I've got basically the same stuff coming for PAP #2 but I've never seen that sling plate mount thingy...I may have to pick one of them up! I've been looking for a rear sling mount and have a velcro'd ring that slips over the buffer tube ordered but it hasn't arrived yet...Cool shit dude

I just got back from the range. I got the SAM7K pretty much zero'd at 50 yards. I'm VERY PLEASED with the SB15.

Nice work
Have you had any thoughts/plans to change pg?

Thinking I might sacrifice my take off v12 grip. Personally I'm not to fond of the grip that's on it.

I'm thinking of replacing it to a wood pistol grip to match the wood hand guards.

This is much more functional than the SB47 folder.

If I had the coin, I'd also go this route with my M92.

Looks good, as is usual for your builds.

OP, you weren't lying about that steel being tough. I had to exchange first drill/tap set because the steel was so tough.

Lol.... Yes! I broke 2 taps with that hard steel. Be sure to center punch before you drill. This will help your drill bit from wondering.

Don't forget to post pictures here once your done with your project.

How long is your Length of pull? Is that much different using the sig brace and bracket vs using CIA brace?

I didn't want to add my pics to your thread out of respect.

I just ordered the 4 pc FH from AK builder since people say it's better then the CNC version.

I'm going to get top rail mount since Manticore seems to have enough beta testers for his renegade forearm. Ultimak told me their M92 mount won't work on M85, so I'm going to need to wait for some rails. I don't like how bulky/looks of the MI handguard.

I dislike black because of looks and it sticks out like a sore thumb under NV. I normally refinish my own firearms, but there is a GB on SH offering cerakote, so I'll be sending this off to be refinished once I get all of my parts. I may get FDE brace as I'm planning on buying another M85NP if my first one works as I hope for it to work.

My Lancer mags feel very well into the AR15 mag adapter. The TAPCO mag doesn't feel as loose with empty mag. I haven't tried my PMags or USGI mags, but I'm sure the USGI mags will be fine.

ERT Urban sling...most modular sling I've ever used. I configured it for two point and one point.

Single point

I have Stormwerkz 6 degree plate...I put the sling loop on RH side...it's designed to go LH side...I'm not sure if I like it as the folding mechanism doesn't seem to be straight.

I was going to order KAK pistol buffer tube, but for me the LOP is perfect with my standard pistol tube. I was going to get the KAK since that's what the OP was using, but I don't need it.

I will need another molle pack...the one that held my 300BO pistol is just a little short for my M85NP.

LOOKS GREAT! Awesome job installing the folding mech! Speaking of back plates wedge. Did you get the back plate wedge kit from "wildbill"? His wedge is ment to even/straighten up the buffer tube with the barrel. See link: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showth...light=wildbill

Since the SAM7K's rear trunnion block is just about in a 90 degree angle, I didn't need it. My buffer tube is pretty straight and even with the barrel.

I got the Stormwerkz plate. I didn't know about the WillBill one until after I placed my order. I just couldn't justify spending $50 for WillBill's plate.

Yeah, $50 is alot for me too. Lucky, I did not need it for the SAM7K.

The SB47's design is slightly different compare to the SB15 as you can see in the photo below. I was also wondering if the SB47's length can be adjusted.

With the KAK Industry buffer tube, you can adjust the length of the SB15 by inserting a sleeve over the buffer tube.

That's nice it's adjustable so it'll strap to just the right part of your forearm.

Got my AK builder 4 pc fh and RFT top mount. The 4 pc FH is a beast...adds more weight, but it looks to work very well at night.

RFT makes a great top mount...I like the jig that you can purchase as a kit...makes process so much faster. What I don't like is RFT justification on charging me nearly $10 on an item that more than fits into a USPS small flat rate box. I knew I needed/wanted two picatinny mounts, so I ordered the double kit.

Now, I'm debating if I'm going to pony up and get low ADM T1 mount or leave the Larue 660 mount that I already have on my T1.

The Bushnell with factory mount sits nicely on the pistol, but the FSB can get in the way. While the 660 seems a little high, it's actually not bad (cheek weld) and FSB does not obstruct the view.

Instead of grinding on the nuts, make a backing plate that fits where the lock nuts would go,.w/ two tapped 10-32 holes to thread the bolts into.

That's a GOOD idea! I have not thought of that. For now, the two locking nuts will do. I would consider that idea the next time I do a similar project. Thanks!

All these awesome pics have inspired me to order a Stormwerks wedge & folding mechanism, an extended buffer tube, and a SB15.

Pics to follow soon...

Finally, took out my M85NP today...this is the pistol I've been wanting for a very long time. I've gone through plenty of firearms and I must say that this one is going to be my go to pistol, once I get more rounds down range.

Biggest pros for me is

1) Uses AR15 mags.

2) I can fire the pistol with brace folded.

3) AK reliability...the pistol has no issues shooting steel cased ammo...unlike AR15s.

4) I'll be buying cases of steel cased ammo to get more training time.

Awesome! That Stormwekz folding mech works great! I'm very happy with it being installed on my SAM7K.
