Not trying to thread jack or anything, but wideners has the same shit for a dollar more and the shipping is about half what usac is charging, which makes them about $12 cheaper by the time its in my hands. Yourmilage may vary.

Gaf & sons is selling 5.45 for $0.17 /round with $7.95 flat shipping rate... bought 2 spam cans and it wouldve cost me $45 for shipping so i ended up spending more per round but saved a shitload on shipping.

How quickly we forget. Barely a year ago folks were pissing themselves to lay their hands on ammo at any price, yet here we are again stepping over dollars to pick up dimes.

Unless you are in a position where you can, metaphorically speaking, afford to wait until prices drop, I would be taking advantage of these prices all day long. We saw how quickly during SH how quickly feast becomes famine.

I have a modest nest egg set up, but I am not willing to gamble that prices will drop $5.63 before I buy. I will keep buying at these near normal prices.

It is well worth it to me to spend a few extra dollars a month as insurance against what will surely come sooner than later.

All surplus Russian 5.45 in a tin is 7N6. If it has a circle 10 on the tin it's Bulgarian 7N6.

this is mostly true... at least with the 5.45 cans youre likely to come across on a regular basis. however, there are some newer-than-7n6 cans floating around from time-to-time

I've been keeping an eye open for 7N10 but I haven't seen any actual tins for it posted, ever.

They want 38.00 shipping to VA. That's a deal breaker for me.
Any savings over other vendors is eaten up by the high shipping.

THIS ^^^^

Everyone keeps on reminiscing over the good old prices of ammo. Fact is that usually when ammo prices jump up, they don't really drop back down much. Especially with surplus, the foreign governments and importers realize that they can get a higher price for the ammo and they keep the higher price.

5.45 is no longer the oddball caliber it used to be. Too many people are discovering the AK74 platform. Plus, it is one of the last remaining surplus rounds you can find for a bargain price.

You guys can hold out for the $140 per tin shipped price that will never come back. I'll be stocking up on it at it's current price before it DOES rise up even further. It's never a matter of "IF" with surplus ammo, only "WHEN" the price will rise.

That's the bitch of it. Widener's also has it for 15 a round, but $42 to ship a crate is just too hard to stomach.

For me, the Weideners shipping cost came out to $62 for a crate via UPS ground vs. $32 shipping at USAC.

Works out to 180.00 a can for me to buy 2 cans shipped. My local Fleet farm wants 219.00 a tin. I save 40.00 a can buying online. But I stocked up at 140.00 a can 2 years ago so I'm good.

Those of you that are being quoted rediculously high shipping quotes from companyxyz, there are ways around the high shipping costs. If your place of business will allow it have it delivered there, commercial delivery is always cheaper. Further more if your company has an account with UPS it will be even cheaper. UPS stops at my workplace twice a day every day whether they have anything to deliver or not, and i am the guy that signs for everything, so it works out well for me. You may have to call the vendor that you are buying off of and alert them of the facts before you will realize any savings, but it is well worth it.

A crate of 5.45 shipped to my house is $45 shipping, shipped to my workplace two blocks from home it costs $22

IIRC, a crate of 5.45 weights 65lbs.

It ain't cheap to ship due to the weight. You either eat the freight or they raise the price and they eat the freight.

As stated above, and in many other places, surplus is just that: surplus. Once it's gone, it's gone.

I just wish I could spend more and really stack it deep.

5.45 will not dry up.

It is a different story, if a general ban is imposed on all Rus/Ukrainian ammo.

The 5.45 mil surp in the U.S., is generally from the mid 70's to the mid 80's. AFAIK, the Russian 5.45 ammo production has continued unabated. The Russians are rotating stock - first in first out.

I would not be certain that production was unabated. How much ammo do you think they made post 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union? The country crashed and they needed foreign aid for food. Things got better and their economy grew again in the 2000s and presumably production increased. But with WW3 off the table and warehouses full of 5.45 would that be the priority? No one disputes there is a lot out there, but they certainly aren't making it like they used to.

Actually they only recently stopped production of military rifles, complaining that they had millions more then they needed.. They likely had the same insane volume of ammo.

Use caution if buying from USAC sales online, with a credit card.

I ordered from them last week, only place I've used my credit card in weeks. Today there were a bunch of charges I didn't make. Visa got them all before they cleared, still a hassle though.

Am I the only one who feel bad opening a can of 7N6? It is like opening a time capsule. I feel like i am destroying a historical artifact. Of course that feeling never stops me.

When you pull that ammo out of the spam cans and its brand new and its like air coming out from tens of years ago.
It is a neat feeling, Dan.

Who knows how many per day they were selling before the Ukraine dominated the headlines? Chances are nobody really paid close attention to the number they had in stock, until it happened. $159 is a decent price. I placed an order for a crate yesterday, i'm shooting the rest of a tin this weekend and I follow the buy 2 for every 1 I use.

While I will say some probably did panic buy, 153 is not alot for a major internet seller. The companies charging $179 per tin, still seem to have plenty.
