Default Need tips & tricks for mounting the scope plate/rail

I have a diagram for mounting the scope plate on AK. Should I go with a longer rivet for the rear trunion or are there tricks around that where I don't have to mess with existing rivets?

Tantal has a custom screw mount which is another option.

Do folks have any tips/tricks on this? I'm open - screws, rivets, welding ... ???

There is not any rivits or pins in the way of this mounting plate. The extra hole under upper rear of plate is the safety hole on the left side and doesn't stick out on scope plate side. I think all New made Romys have this plate, and cause no problems. I would not use this on a Flat build, as flat in this area is not heat-treated and would not hold 0 with a scope. Just my .02, Paul

He's right about the holes, but I don't see heat treating as being an issue here. The ammout of stress that would be required to distort the mount holes would EASILY knock any scope out of zero. Heat treated or not. This should be a non-issue as long as your holes are in the proper place, and of proper size. Or you could always just spot-weld it on.

Oh - I didn't realize that. I thought I'd heard some of the rivets would be in the way.

Could I just spot weld it on?

FYI, these mounts are not as strong when you don't utilize the rear trunnion as part of the mount. Its not hard to drill out the rear trunnion rivet and put in a new longer rivet - hard part is finding the new longer rivet that goes all the way through mounting plate and solid rear trunion. I had to make my own rivet by putting a larger rivet into a power drill and sanding it down to the right diameter (4.3mm). I also had to sand the larger head down to size..
