I'm working with a well-known gunsmith and we have a new project in mind, he's very interested in making SVD-style flash hiders that will thread right onto AK/Romaks and possibly many other thread sizes for various rifles, he builds some of the best flash hiders/brakes for customers on several gun-related sites, I can tell you his work is some of the best in business.
Thank you, Dave Update: Thanks to Berg for the specs!

Just a heads up, the SVD FSB and flash hider are one piece.

You also might consider just adapting the FAL/L1A1 flash hider. It's almost the same dimension:

Hilljack,
I knew the SVD was one piece and we're interested in making them fit AK-type threaded muzzles/FSBs right now, in the future I'd like to see a multitude of thread pitches to fit many different rifles, I think this particular type of FH would be a hot item on the market. Berg, Reworking FAL Inch FH design was once considered, but the SVD is another animal, I've wanted one to fit my PSL for 2 years. The 'smith is working on an AK Bulgarian FH right now and with a few simple mods it might be very close to the SVD-type. I want to say a big THANK YOU to Berg! I have searched for days(Google, etc.) for those SVD specs, came up with nothing, and Berg had them the whole time. I was considering buy one from Russia for around $150 shipped and having to wait a month for it, I guess we could say Berg just saved me $150, I owe him.DaWoof, Consider yourself one of the first ones on the wish list. I will keep all of you posted, I just forwarded the specs to the 'smith, everything is looking good so far. |

That blueprint was originally for dragunovparts.com when he was attempting to re-engineer the flash hider assembly. I took most of those measurements and used a Chinese NDM-86 as a model. I also used a dial caliper tool (not digital) so it's possible the numbers will not perfectly match the factory specs. But it should be close enough. I hope they can be of some use.
There's also the option of the Airsoft flash hider which is already threaded.

Berg,
Thanks for your hard work. Airsoft version, got a link for those? It would serve as a decent model for the prototypes. Makes me wonder if they redesigned it in the last year? Regardless, I heard the threads were different and I do recall they WILL frag on firearms, several people already tried this awhile back with frightening range results. ![]() If I put something on my firearms it won't be questionable, I'd expect the same from any of you. That is why I contacted a well-known/respected 'smith on this project, I knew he's make a nice/safe product. |

Quite so. My apology, if I seemed to slight your endevor. I misunderstood your post. My PSL would like one, with a closed bottom, if it is made that way. Hilljack |

Hilljack,
I have no problem with you informing me the SVD FH was integral with FSB, there are some on this site that probably didn't know that. So you want like a 3 port FH and no ports on bottom, planning on shooting prone w/ no mat? I'll see what I can do. |

I picked up an M16 flash hider several months ago that I drilled out and re-tapped with 1X14 threads to fit my PSL (see pic). Haven't fired it yet, but I think it looks great!
