Default AK rear sight setting for 50 yard zero

I plan on zeroing my AK's at 50 yards and would like to know which mark to set the rear sight at while doing so. I'm not sure if it matters, but I will do this for both my 5.56 and 7.62x39 AK's. Thanks.

I zero using the battle zero setting(but at 25m). Though, I use hold overs, I don't adjust the rear sight slider for distance.

The sight setting of 1 or 100 meters is called for for 50 meters. 50 yards should be close enough. It should be the closest to correct setting at that distance.

With the sights set on and adjusted at 100 meters, 7.62 is 1 cm high at 50 meters, 5.56 is 0.7 cm high at 50 meters and 5.45 is not measurably off at 50 meters. Note 50 yards is about 10 percent closer than 50 meters.

I used the 100m setting to zero my 74 last weekend at 50 yards. Worked out nicely except for the outrageous wind.

Thanks guys. I'm going to do a 50 yard zero on my 5.56 AK. I just want to be sure. Should I start with the 100m setting on the rear sight and then once it's zeroed, move it back to the battle sight setting? Thanks.

If your 5.56 AK has a 100 meter sight the battle sight setting is 400 meters. The Bulgarian 5.56 AK's with 800 meter sights have the battle sight srtting at 300 meters. It is recommended to use the 100 meter setting for 50 meters, so that should be close enough for 50 yards. You can try it.

A 300 meter setting would be 6 cm high at 50 meters. A 400 meter setting would be 12 cm high at 50 meters in a 5.56 AK.

Why not simply use the battle setting at 25 yards,

I understand the reverse effect of using 100 meter setting at 50 meter, but seems little "over" complicated.... Now, if this is how they say to do it in mother Russia or commie where ever else, I stand corrected....

If I am wrong, IS there an issue with zeroing at battle site zero mark on the rear sight at 25 yards/meters....? Seems ok on chart.....

That's what I do panzertruppe. I've dropped a few hogs with my SGL21, so I think it's working well enough for me.

At 50 meters and especially at 50 yards, 25 meters and 25 yards, the 100 meter setting may shoot low. I think read the chart wrong and it would theoretically be 0.7 cm low at 50 meters set at 1. That wouldn't be enough to matter but at closer distances the sight may need to be moved up to larger numbers. That's why the battle sight setting may work at such close range. Also the distance would be so short that small errors would be hard to distinguish, but they may show up as larger errors at longer ranges.

If you were to use this method with 5.45 at 25 yards instead of 21 meters should you hold high or low a tad?

You'd be shooting a little low, so you'd want to hold a little high, but it would be a pretty small difference since 25 yards equals just a little less than 23 meters. I honestly would not sweat the difference, zero it at the 25 yards and then just shoot at longer ranges to check your hold overs.
