Default Slant cut receiver to square

Seems like at least a few of you have converted your slant cut receiver back to "normal" by welding on a filler section. I may be interested in having something like that done in the future. I'm assuming that TIG would be preferred in this case? Would welding jack up the heat treatment of the receiver? Insight?

The main reason to convert to square would be stock selection. The square ones accept standard ak furniture. The slants wont. If your thinking of any type of svd/thumbhole, then u might want to keep it slanted. All the svd types (except plastic) for the square one have an inherent weak spot between the grip and the receiver thats not there on the slant ones.

Anyway, a tig would work for the welding, i would just back it with brass or some kind of heat sink to help absorb the excess heat.

I use an adapter instead of welding. Works great and let's me use standard AK stocks. Adapter cost me $45.

Should have stated in the original post: Right now I'm running an ace folder with an adapter on my slant cut Vepr. It's a good stock... but sometimes I'm curious how it'd look square with a regular stock and no adapter.

I have a straight back and im thinking of cutting the receiver to a slant so its easier to fit an svd type stock. Lol.

I'd like to see someone take a slant cut and get it to square with a left side folding "Khyber Pass / AK100" style stock on it.

I suppose the RPK front trunnion would preclude having a traditional front latch, however.
