Default Filling grooves in barrel

Hey Gang,
I'm building a Romy kit to look like a Galil and removed the front sight.
Now I'm left with the 2 grooves on the top of the barrel. Any way of filling the grooves without applying excessive heat to the barrel?

Thanks,
Doug

Default filling holes..

I used a flux core wire welder to fill grooves like you are talking about.
Wire welders don,t give off a lot of heat.I don,t think a little heat will hurt a Ak
barrel. I have read somewhere that some of the Russian AK,s had the sites, etc
plug welded.good luck....

Same here, I am weld happy and like to fill in the dimples from the spot welder with a flux core wire welder. Make sure you paint the area for a nice look.

I use a mig for that. if you use a flux core welder you might want to use anti spatter spray on it. Don't try to fill the whole thing at once - a little at a time and let it cool.

Thanks to all for the input. I ordered up a welder today.
This will be my first try at it. Good thing I've got an old shot out FAL barrel to practice on.
Do you think I'll need any filler metal sticks and if so, what kind should I get?

What kind of welder did you buy? If you got a mig/flux core welder the wire is the filler material. A TIG will require filler material, it is a very similar process to gas welding.

if you bought a TIG, 70s is a good all round rod - I like the 1/16" rod.
