Default selector stop

When i was first taking the rivits of my romy kit i was doing the trigger guard and slipped with the dremel and cut the selector stop at the time i figured it was a reenforcing plate so i cut threw it iput it all togethor and it shoots fine.Do i need a selector stop? This seems like a stupid question because it obviously was there for something but my safety and gun work fine?

Its your AK. If the selector is not falling down, Getting in your way , when you fire it, Should be ok. But I would put new one , or weld on a bead for a stop. Never seen an AK without one. Its purpose is to keep selector off your hand durring rapid fire.

It also spaces the rear of the magazine in relation to the receiver. There is a small milled out area on the bottom of the selector stop that the mag retention tab fits into when the mag is locked in place. Building without a selector stop usually results in the rear of the mag sitting too high and the bolt hits the mag. I guess you got lucky.

You can make one from ,063 inch 4130 steel. It must be heat treated abd hardened after shaping it as the metal is too soft as-is.

As the kernel mentioned, the selector stop does a lot more than just stop the selector.
I'm amazed the rifle feeds at all without it.

Somebody told me there's a difference between the 7.62 and 5.45 selector stops.I'm not sure what it is yet.Maybe where the magazine hits it.I bought a Bulgarian AK74 parts kit without a selector stop.I bought a 223 Saiga selector stop to try with the AK74.
