Here's my 1997 dated WUM1 in 7.62x39.

The fit and finish of this rifle is above what is typical of most Romanian AK's. I removed the awful buttstock that came on it and replaced it with a US made First Son Enterprises folding looking triangle buttstock and pistol grip. I also replaced the trigger group with a US made one. Since the ban has now expired, I've ordered a laminated stock set from Ironwood designs to put on it, except that I'll use a real Romanian pistol grip. A cool thing about this rifle is that it still has the threads for the flash hider. They are under a thread protector that was welded on with just one spot of weld for compliance purposes. It will be easy to grind off and then I'll be able to put on a proper type muzzle brake.

This was a Romy 'G' kit, circa 1986.
I added walnut made for a milled rec and
the euro side-folder, polish sling.
Tapco flat.

Shmendrake, I love the touch you put on that 86 Romanian Kit. First one I seen with a milled stock set w/ The wood pistol grip. The only thing I would do to it if it was my build is just exchange the polish sling for a 100% all leather Romanian one. If I can recollect right, if you are interested; Look up Bocefus or Greentimber for an authenic one for about 8.00 bucks.(new). LOL Ken from Pa. That is a sweeeeet build...

I had a Coldsteel 1.6mm blank for a Russian UF laying around and discovered
that it was just right for this one. These UF cut outs are cut further forward than the stamped Yugo, Polish layout.

I otherwise would have used a
tapco flat w/no trunnion holes.

This one is solid, I like how it feels and shoots.

In December of 2003, I bought myself a Christmas present: a SAR 1 for $200. I knew nothing about AKMs but had wanted one for awhile and saw the SAR 1 for sale in a mom-and-pop gun store.

Although this picture is not my original SAR 1, mine looked basically the same as the one below.

After keeping the rifle in its original condition for about a year, I decided that I wanted to modify it based on some of the other AKMs that I had seen here as well as on other sites. So, I stated the modification process and this is what I have ended up with so far:

And if you have not seen how a Kobra attaches to a side rail, here it is:

It addition, the rifle is fully compliant with U.S. parts.

Here is my picture of Romanians with AK picture.

These guys are the TPT slice of the Romanian ODA that is assigned to our A Camp here in the Ghan. A great bunch of guys to work with. Their '74's have 3 selection settings on them: Safe, Auto, Semi, 2 round burst. They are a blast to shoot.
I am in the middle there prone with my Soviet AKM and my CCO mounted on an Ultimak optics mount.

KUCHI 30 OUT!

Default romy build

This is a pic of my Romanian AKM (screwed build.) "pun intended"
This is the day it was brought home after an extensive workout at the firing range. As most successful builds rate....It functioned flawlessly, no FTF, FTE, or no failure to fire. Accuracy was improved by simply moving elevation adjusting mechanism up to the 100m notch, from there, all in the ring,.. at 50 yrds. Windage was dead on. Well, now it is time for me to dis-assemble, de-grease, paint, re-assemble w/all new 10/32 grd.8,sockethead screws, cut to the exact length, red..loc-tite for front and rear trunnions. also new 8/32's. same receipe for trigger guard assembly. Ken from Pa.

I figured since I had these 2-3 more pics of the 1st Romy I posted, I might as well post these too, with Mr. Romy, and a few friends. The pic showing close-up of Romanian laminated wood stock is about right in what to expect when using a red mahogany oil-based stain/w 5-6 coats of Zinssers' amber shellac. Ken from Pa.

Hey Tapeo1, Nice Romanian there. I just love the composition of the woods and the outdoors when setting these builds up for pics. In the near future, that is what I will be working on. Sort of like a calander theme of photos portraying the four seasons and various stage settings of displays. I'm real sure you know exactly where I'm going with this. But, for example, your Romanian sitting against the tree, I would add an ammo pouch w/4 mags, maybe 1/2 out the pouch, a set of military issue field glasses,a pack of opened Romanian ciggaretts, or maybe a canteen, or issued backpack/w head gear, and so on...summer, fall, winter /w snow on the ground scenes. You get the picture (pun intended). Next,..the Yugoslavians, then the E.Germans, or Hungarians, or Chinese,Russians, and so on...Hey Tapeo1, I just love trying to get creative in just about everything I get into. Something tells me your pretty much the same, just by viewing your builds, and reading your threads and postings in the last year. There goes that Long-Winded sh.. again. And again, beautiful Romanian build. T.C. Ken from Pa.

AKBuilder, you're starting to give me some creative ideas for AK photo compositions!

I've been to Romania twice in the past 5 years and I have a fair amount of Romanian folk art and Orthodox Icon paintings on wood block. I've got some bottles of Romanian wine and Tuica (plum brandy) but I don't have any Romanian cigarettes... actually I don't think I ever saw anyone there smoking anything but American cigarettes when I've been there. Anyway, I could probably use some of this stuff with the Romanian AKs I have in a photo shoot.

She has been beat up to look kind of like a BFPU date on the side is 1974 with an Arrow in the Triangle. I even removed the blue on the bolt carrier and use Never Dull to keep it looking good. "Wolverines"

Here's me with my WASR. I love it. It's worked flawlessly and more accurate than I would have guessed. I'm thinking of mounting a red-dot, but not sure if I will. I like the simplicity.

I'm surprised at how unpopular the wooden forgrip is. I think it's extremely comfortable. I guess it does look a little funky though.
